Visa on Arrival

UK citizens can obtain a visa on arrival at designated Saudi ports of entry, paying 300 SAR for up to 30 days per visit.

Guide last updated September 5, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry into Saudi Arabia and have at least 2 blank pages for stamps.
  • Forms and application: No pre-application is required for Visa on Arrival. At the border, immigration will process the VoA. There is typically no online form to complete before you travel. You may be asked to fill a short border form and have your biometric data captured at arrival.
  • Financial proof: There is no published minimum funds requirement for Visa on Arrival; border officers may ask for evidence of sufficient funds, but many travellers proceed with standard funds for their stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: It is strongly recommended to have hotel bookings or an address in Saudi Arabia and a return/onward flight evident to help during border checks.
  • Photo specification: Carry a passport-style photo (35x45 mm) with a plain white background as a backup if required at border checks.
  • Biometrics: Yes. Digital photo and fingerprints are typically captured at the immigration desk during VoA processing.
  • Travel health insurance: Travel medical insurance is recommended but not legally required for VoA.

Visa types

  • Tourist Visa on Arrival for Tourism: Official name Visa on Arrival for Tourism. Validity up to 30 days. Single entry. Fee 300 SAR (approx USD 80). Not normally extendable at border; if you need longer stay, apply for an online eVisa or another visa category before travel.
  • Note: Some travellers also choose to use the online eVisa route for longer or repeated visits; details at the official MOFA portal https://visa.mofa.gov.sa/.

Application process

  • Visa on arrival: Which ports: Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED), Riyadh King Khalid International Airport (RUH), Madinah Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport (MED). Other international airports may also offer VoA; check at entry airport.
  • Steps on arrival: Go to the VoA immigration counter, present your passport valid for at least 6 months, provide return/onward ticket and hotel details if requested, pay the 300 SAR fee in cash (SAR) or USD if accepted, have necessary documents handy, and undergo biometric capture (photo and fingerprints).
  • Fees and accepted currencies: 300 SAR payable at the counter; cash in Saudi Riyal is preferred; US dollars may be accepted at some ports; carry small denominations. Card payments may be available at some counters.
  • How the approval arrives: VoA is granted at the border after processing by immigration staff.
  • Queue tips: Arrive early to the border area; join the VoA queue; keep passport and payment ready; be polite and answer questions concisely; have hotel/reservation info handy if asked.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: 300 SAR (approx USD 80) for Tourist VoA. No separate third-party visa service fee for this category; payable at the port.
  • VFS/BLS service fee: Not applicable for Visa on Arrival since there is no separate visa processing center; border processing is at the immigration desk on arrival.
  • Total cost estimate: 300 SAR.
  • Standard processing time: On arrival; processing occurs at the port; typical wait time 15–60 minutes depending on queues.
  • Express/priority: Not available for Visa on Arrival; you can reduce wait by choosing less busy arrival times.

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: Visa on Arrival does not require pre-approval; you arrive and receive the VoA at the port. If you prefer to secure travel authorization in advance, consider applying online for an eVisa (Tourist) through the MOFA portal before travel.
  • Common rejection reasons for United Kingdom applicants: Passport validity less than 6 months, insufficient funds when asked, lack of return/onward ticket, missing hotel details, or attempting to enter on a port not offering VoA.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For Visa on Arrival, no third-party visa center is involved; you proceed directly at the border. If applying for eVisa, use the official MOFA portal; avoid alternative sites.
  • Travel advisories: Always check the latest travel advisories from UK government and Saudi authorities before travel; ensure there are no entry restrictions.
  • Extension options: Visa on Arrival is typically for up to 30 days and cannot be extended at the border; for longer stays, use eVisa or another visa category obtained in advance.
