What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Oman.
  • Specific forms: No pre-arrival forms are required for visa on arrival; you will complete the process at the visa on arrival desk on arrival.
  • Financial proof: There is no fixed bank statement requirement for VOA; you should have access to enough funds to cover your stay (no specified minimum published for VOA).
  • Accommodation and return ticket requirements: Have the address of your accommodation in Oman or a confirmed hotel booking, and a return or onward ticket available if requested by immigration.
  • Photo spec: No passport photo submission is required at the VOA desk; your passport serves as your identification.
  • Biometrics: No separate biometrics submission is required for VOA; immigration will stamp your passport.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory for VOA; having travel health insurance is strongly recommended.
  • Additional notes: VOA is typically issued at Muscat International Airport; some ports may offer VOA with different procedures, and availability can change; always verify locally before you travel.

Visa types

  • Visa on Arrival (Tourist/Visit) – Official name: Visa on Arrival (Tourist/Visit). Duration: 30 days. Maximum stay: 30 days per visit. Entry: Single. Approximate fee: 20 OMR (about USD 52).
  • eVisa (Tourist) – Official name: eVisa – Tourist. Duration: 30 days. Maximum stay: 30 days. Entry: Single. Approximate fee: 20 OMR (about USD 52). Apply online at https://evisa.rop.gov.om/; typical processing time 1–3 business days.
  • Sticker visa (via MOFA/Embassy) – Official name: Visa (Sticker) via MOFA/Embassy for purposes such as work or longer stays. Duration and stay limits vary by visa type; approximate fees commonly range 20–50 OMR depending on the category; processing times 3–7 days; requires submission through the embassy or MOFA channel.
  • Note: For longer stays or purposes other than tourism, you should consider applying online via the official eVisa portal or through an Oman embassy/consulate as appropriate.

How to apply for visa on arrival

  • How it works: Visa on arrival is issued at the immigration desk on arrival in Oman after you present your passport and meet entry conditions.
  • Where to apply: Principal VOA desks are at Muscat International Airport (MCT); some other ports may offer VOA with different procedures; verify at arrival.
  • Steps: 1) Go to the visa on arrival desk after clearing arrival formalities. 2) Present your passport (valid for at least 6 months). 3) Provide any requested supporting documents (return/onward ticket and hotel address if asked). 4) Pay the VOA fee in OMR (cash preferred; USD/EUR may be accepted at some desks). 5) Receive visa stamp in passport and proceed to immigration.
  • Fees and currencies: Visa on arrival fee is paid at the desk in OMR; some desks may accept USD or EUR at a posted rate, but cash in OMR is recommended.
  • How approval arrives: The visa is stamped/stickered into your passport at the desk; there is no separate electronic approval.
  • Tips: Arrive earlier in the day to reduce queue times; have exact cash ready in OMR; carry your hotel address and return ticket ready in case immigration asks.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa on Arrival fee (Tourist/Visit) for 30 days: 20 OMR; approx USD 52.
  • Other routes (eVisa and embassy/sticker visas) have different fee structures (see section 2 for general ranges). For eVisa, fees are typically 20 OMR for tourist entries.
  • VFS/BLS service fees: Not applicable to visa on arrival; these services are used for certain embassy or eVisa processes, not for VOA at the airport.
  • Total cost estimate: VOA: 20 OMR (approx USD 52) plus any incidental charges at the desk.
  • Standard processing time: VOA is conducted on arrival; processing at the desk typically takes 15–60 minutes depending on queues.
  • Express/priority option: Not available for VOA; expedited processing would depend on alternative routes (eVisa or embassy processing) with separate fees and timelines.

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: Not required for VOA; you can travel without a prior VOA application, but you may also consider applying online for an eVisa if you prefer pre-arrival approval (via https://evisa.rop.gov.om/).
  • Common reasons for issues specific to UK applicants: For VOA, ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from entry, you have a return/onward ticket and, if asked, hotel details; failure to meet entry requirements or doubts about the purpose of stay can cause delays or denial.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: VOA is handled directly at the airport VOA desk; VFS/BLS services are not used for VOA in Oman; use the embassy/eVisa route if you require a different visa type.
  • Travel advisories: Check the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and Oman MOFA travel advisories for any entry requirements, health advisories, or changes to visa rules before you travel.
  • Extension options inside Oman: Visa on arrival extensions are not commonly available; for longer stays, plan to depart and re-enter for another VOA or apply for an appropriate visa in advance via the eVisa portal or a MOFA/embassy channel before travel.
