UK citizens can get a free 10-day visa on arrival in Oman, or apply in advance for a 30-day eVisa via evisa.rop.gov.om for about OMR 20 (approx. USD 52).

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
  • No application form needed for the free 10-day visa-on-arrival stamp; the 30-day eVisa requires an online application at evisa.rop.gov.om.
  • Proof of onward/return travel ticket.
  • Proof of hotel booking or sponsor's details in Oman.
  • A passport-style digital photo (white background, 4x6 cm) for the eVisa application.
  • Biometrics (fingerprints) are taken on arrival at Muscat International Airport for all visitors.
  • Travel health insurance is recommended but not mandatory for tourist entry.

Visa types

  • Free visa-on-arrival stamp: single entry, valid 10 days, issued to UK nationals at the airport at no cost, for tourism only.
  • Tourist eVisa (30 days, single entry): applied for online via evisa.rop.gov.om, fee around OMR 20 (approx. USD 52), extendable once for a further 30 days.
  • Multiple-entry tourist eVisa (1 year validity, 30 days per visit): fee around OMR 50 (approx. USD 130), useful for frequent visitors.
  • Business visa: requires a local sponsor/company invitation letter, arranged in advance through the Royal Oman Police portal.

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport; land borders generally require a pre-arranged eVisa.
  • On arrival, proceed to the visa counter before immigration, present your passport and return ticket, and the 10-day stamp is issued free of charge for UK citizens.
  • For the longer 30-day eVisa, approval is granted before travel (usually within 2-4 business days), so you simply present the printed approval and passport at immigration.
  • Payment for the eVisa is made online by credit/debit card in OMR; the on-arrival 10-day stamp requires no payment.
  • Queues at Muscat airport visa counters can take 20-40 minutes during peak evening arrivals - have your documents ready.

  • Free 10-day visa on arrival: no fee.
  • 30-day single-entry eVisa: approx. OMR 20 (approx. USD 52), processed online in 2-4 working days.
  • 1-year multiple-entry eVisa: approx. OMR 50 (approx. USD 130), same processing window.
  • Extension of the 30-day eVisa for a further 30 days costs around OMR 20 via the ROP eVisa portal or a local service centre.
  • No official express service, but most eVisa approvals come back within 48 hours.

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Apply for the 30-day eVisa in advance for a guaranteed, printed approval rather than relying on the on-arrival stamp, especially if arriving late at night.
  • Double-check your passport has at least 6 months' validity - Omani immigration enforces this strictly.
  • Dress modestly when travelling, particularly outside tourist resorts, as this smooths both entry and general travel in Oman.
  • Alcohol is tightly regulated - do not attempt to bring in more than the personal allowance.
  • Overstaying even by a day without an extension can lead to fines charged per day at departure, so track your 10- or 30-day limit carefully.
