New Zealand Visa for United Kingdom Citizens 2026

UK citizens must obtain a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) online before departure, valid for multiple visa-free visits of up to 90 days each over 2 years.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of your stay (machine-readable, ideally with an e-passport chip)
  • Approved NZeTA linked to your passport before boarding
  • International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) paid alongside the NZeTA application
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds and accommodation may be requested by border officials
  • Travel insurance recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • NZeTA visitor authorisation: multiple entry, up to 90 days per visit, valid 2 years, around NZD 17 if applied via the app or NZD 23 via the website, plus the IVL of NZD 100
  • Work and Student visas must be applied for separately through Immigration New Zealand and are not covered by the NZeTA
  • Partner/Specific Purpose visas also require a full application in advance

  • Apply via the official 'NZeTA' mobile app (cheaper) or the Immigration New Zealand website
  • Provide passport details, a digital photo, and answer health/character questions
  • Pay the NZeTA fee (around NZD 17 app / NZD 23 web) plus the IVL (NZD 100)
  • Most approvals arrive within minutes, but can take up to 72 hours
  • Confirmation is linked electronically to your passport number — no physical stamp or sticker is issued

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Apply at least 72 hours before your flight, ideally when you book tickets, to avoid any last-minute delay
  • Double-check your passport number is entered correctly, as the NZeTA is electronically linked rather than stamped
  • The 90-day visa-free stay cannot normally be extended from inside New Zealand; departing and re-entering does not reset it if done to circumvent the limit
  • Keep your NZeTA confirmation email accessible when checking in, as airlines verify it before boarding
