UK citizens must obtain an online Mozambique eVisa before travel; apply at https://evisa.gov.mz; eVisa fees start from USD 60 for Tourist and processing time is 2–5 working days.

What you need

  • Passport validity: your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry and have at least two blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: complete the online eVisa application on the official portal https://evisa.gov.mz; there is no DS-160 or VAF1A form for Mozambique eVisa; you will upload your passport bio page and a recent photo and provide travel details.
  • Financial proof: there is no fixed bank statement requirement for the online eVisa; carry funds to cover your stay and be prepared to show funds if asked by Mozambican immigration.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: provide proof of accommodation for the full stay and a return or onward ticket when requested.
  • Photo spec: a recent colour passport photo (JPEG), size 35x45 mm (3.5x4.5 cm), white background, head and shoulders, no glasses, neutral expression; file size up to 1–2 MB.
  • Biometrics: biometrics are not collected in person for the eVisa; you upload the digital photo as part of the online application.
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory, but travel health insurance covering medical costs and repatriation is strongly recommended.

  • eVisa Tourist: Official name eVisa Tourist; Validity 90 days from issue; Max stay per entry 30 days; Entry single; Approx fee USD 60 (about MZN 3,900).
  • eVisa Business: Official name eVisa Business; Validity 90 days from issue; Max stay per entry 30 days; Entry single; Approx fee USD 70 (about MZN 4,600).
  • Sticker visa (Visto de Trabalho / Visto de Estudante): Official names Visto de Trabalho and Visto de Estudante; Validity up to 12 months; Max stay per entry up to 90 days; Multiple entries allowed; Approx fee USD 120 (about MZN 7,900).

Application process

  • How to apply online: go to https://evisa.gov.mz/; create an account, fill the online form, upload required documents (passport bio page scan, recent photo, travel and accommodation plans), pay the visa fee by card, and submit; you will receive a notification by email; once approved, the eVisa is issued electronically and you must print it to travel.
  • Visa on arrival: UK citizens are advised to obtain the eVisa prior to travel; visa on arrival is not guaranteed and is not the primary route on the official portal.
  • Sticker visa (work/study): apply through the Mozambican Embassy or Consulate (or designated visa processing partner if offered); documents typically include passport, photos, invitation letter or employer letter for work and proof of course for study; fees paid at the embassy or via designated payment methods; processing time generally 7–15 working days; interview may be required in some cases.

  • Total cost estimate: expect around USD 60–120 depending on visa type, plus any service fees charged by the processing channel; when paid in local currency, the amount will be shown in MZN equivalent at the time of payment.
  • Standard processing time: eVisa processing typically 2–5 working days.
  • Express/priority option: not publicly listed on the official eVisa site; no explicit express option is advertised.

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Apply well in advance: aim to submit your eVisa application at least 5–10 working days before travel; allow up to 15 days in busy periods.
  • Common rejection reasons: incomplete application; passport validity less than 6 months; passport photo not meeting the specs; inconsistent travel or accommodation details; lack of funds evidence when requested.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy: for online eVisa use the official portal; sticker visas or other categories may require a Mozambican embassy/consulate or a visa processing partner; check current requirements before applying.
