Iraq Visa for United Kingdom Citizens 2026

British citizens can apply for an Iraqi e-Visa online before traveling, valid for short tourist or business stays.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months, with at least one blank page
  • Scanned passport bio page
  • Passport-style photo
  • Invitation letter if traveling for business
  • A valid card for online payment
  • Printed copy of the e-visa approval letter to present on arrival

Visa types

  • e-Visa (tourist) - single entry, typically valid for 60 days from issue, with a stay of up to 30 days
  • e-Visa (business) - similar validity, requires an invitation letter from an Iraqi company
  • Note: the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) runs a separate visa-on-arrival system for many nationalities including the UK, valid for 30 days, issued at Erbil or Sulaymaniyah airports

How to apply online

  • Apply at evisa.gov.iq and create an account
  • Upload your passport bio page and a passport-style photo
  • Select the visa type and travel dates, then pay online by card
  • Approval is typically emailed within a few business days
  • Print the approval letter to present at the airport alongside your passport

Fees & processing time

  • The federal Iraq e-visa fee is approximately USD 75-80 for a single-entry tourist e-visa
  • Standard processing takes 3-5 business days
  • The separate Kurdistan Region visa-on-arrival is low-cost or free depending on current policy and is issued on the spot at KRI airports

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Check the FCDO travel advisory, which advises against travel to parts of federal Iraq, while the Kurdistan Region is generally considered lower risk
  • Decide in advance whether you are entering via Baghdad (federal e-visa required) or directly into Erbil/Sulaymaniyah (KRI visa on arrival may be simpler)
  • Register your travel with the British Embassy if visiting
  • Apply for the e-visa at least a week before departure to allow for processing delays
