  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended given variable medical facilities outside Guatemala City

Visa types

  • As a visa-exempt visitor there is no visa category needed for tourism or short business trips.
  • Visitor's entry stamp (granted on arrival): covers tourism, family visits, and short business meetings, up to 90 days, valid for travel across the CA-4 bloc (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua) under one combined stay
  • Work permit: required for paid employment, arranged in advance with a Guatemalan employer
  • Residence permit: needed for longer-term residency or retirement in Guatemala

Entry conditions

  • UK citizens are granted an entry stamp valid for stays of up to 90 days without needing a visa, with time spent in the other CA-4 countries counting toward the same combined limit.

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Remember that your 90 days is shared across the whole CA-4 region, so time spent in El Salvador, Honduras, or Nicaragua on the same trip reduces your remaining allowance in Guatemala
  • Carry proof of onward or return travel, particularly if crossing land borders within Central America
  • Arrange comprehensive travel insurance, as specialist medical care can be limited outside Guatemala City and Antigua
  • If approaching the 90-day limit, visit an Immigration Institute office in good time to request an extension rather than crossing a border and back, which is not always accepted as a reset
