British citizens can travel to the Czech Republic visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, within the overall Schengen Area allowance - no visa or ETA is currently needed for tourism or business.

What you need

  • Passport issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least 3 months past the planned departure from the Schengen Area
  • No visa required for the 90-day stay
  • Proof of return/onward travel and accommodation may be requested at the border
  • Funds guideline of around CZK 1,500 (roughly GBP 50) per day, rarely checked
  • Travel insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 of medical costs is recommended
  • Biometrics: standard passport stamping, no advance enrolment

Visa types

  • Short-stay Schengen-exempt entry - tourism, business meetings, family visits, up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen Area
  • Long-stay national visa (type D) - required for stays over 90 days, such as work or study, applied for at the Czech Embassy in London before travel
  • Employee card/residence permit - for those taking up work in the Czech Republic, a separate longer process

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Use the EU's Schengen calculator to track days, since Czech stays count against the same 90/180 allowance as other Schengen trips
  • Carry a printed hotel booking or invitation letter, since non-EU e-gates are not always available at Prague Airport and manual checks are common
  • Those planning remote work or a longer stay should apply for the Czech long-term visa/residence permit (including the trade-licence/Zivno route) well ahead of the 90-day limit
