Zimbabwe Visa for South Africa Citizens 2026

Visa Free

As a fellow SADC member state, South African citizens can enter Zimbabwe visa-free for tourism and business for up to 90 days with just a valid passport.

Guide last updated October 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • No visa required for SADC nationals, including South Africans, for stays up to 90 days
  • Proof of onward/return ticket may be requested
  • Proof of accommodation or sufficient funds may be requested
  • Biometrics: standard entry stamp, and increasingly biometric capture, at major ports of entry
  • Travel health insurance: recommended; yellow fever certificate may be requested if arriving from or transiting a yellow fever risk country

Visa types

  • No visa required for SADC citizens for tourism or business visits up to 90 days per year - free entry permit stamped on arrival
  • Zimbabwe also operates an e-visa (evisa.gov.zw) and visa-on-arrival system for non-SADC nationalities, but South African passport holders do not need either
  • KAZA Univisa: a joint Zambia-Zimbabwe visa aimed at non-SADC visitors to the Victoria Falls region - not applicable to South Africans, who cross both countries visa-free
  • Work/residence permit: required for employment or long-term residence, applied for separately through the Department of Immigration

Entry conditions

  • Permitted stay: up to 90 days in a calendar year for SADC nationals
  • Work restrictions: no paid employment permitted on the visa-free entry
  • What to show on arrival: valid passport; yellow fever certificate if arriving from an at-risk country
  • Extension options: extensions beyond 90 days can be requested at the Department of Immigration in Harare before the permit expires

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the SADC visa-free entry
  • No VFS/BLS service required
  • Total cost estimate: USD 0 for a standard visit
  • Processing time: immediate on arrival at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (Harare), Victoria Falls International Airport, or land borders such as Beitbridge

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Beitbridge is one of the busiest land borders in Southern Africa - expect queues during school holidays and month-end/weekend periods
  • Carry your yellow fever certificate if transiting a risk country, even though you are exempt from Zimbabwe's visa requirement
  • Combine with Zambia for a Victoria Falls trip - South Africans cross both borders visa-free, so the KAZA Univisa is unnecessary
  • There is a Zimbabwean Embassy/Consulate in Pretoria and Cape Town for general consular enquiries
  • Track your cumulative days in Zimbabwe across multiple visits within a year to stay within the 90-day SADC allowance
