Fees & processing time

  • Consular visa fee for South African citizens: approximately R1,200 for a single-entry L visa, more for multiple entry
  • CVASC service fee: approximately R350 additional
  • Total cost estimate: R1,500-R1,900 depending on entry type
  • Standard processing: 4 working days
  • Express processing: 2-3 working days (extra ~R500)
  • Rush processing: next working day (extra ~R1,000)

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Apply at least 3-4 weeks before travel to allow for the CVASC appointment and processing, especially around Chinese New Year and summer
  • Common rejection reasons: inconsistent travel itinerary, insufficient bank balance, unclear purpose of visit
  • Book the CVASC appointment only through the official website to avoid third-party agent markups
  • Check current visa-free transit rules (72/144-hour transit in some cities) before applying for a full visa if only connecting through China
  • Extensions inside China are handled by the local Public Security Bureau and granted only for valid reasons
