Guide last updated October 21, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from Albania
  • Online registration and application through the e-Albania portal (e-albania.al)
  • Digital passport-size photo and scanned passport bio-data page
  • Confirmed accommodation booking (hotel reservation or host's address)
  • Return/onward flight itinerary
  • Travel medical insurance covering the stay
  • Bank statement or other proof of sufficient funds
  • A valid email address and card for online fee payment

Visa types

  • Short-stay e-Visa (Type C) — single or multiple entry, valid for a stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, fee approx. EUR 50
  • Business e-Visa — similar validity, requires an invitation letter from an Albanian company
  • Transit e-Visa — shorter validity for travellers connecting onward through Albania

How to apply online

  • Register and log in to the e-Albania portal (e-albania.al)
  • Complete the visa application form with passport, trip, and accommodation details
  • Upload the digital photo and passport scan along with supporting documents
  • Pay the visa fee online through the portal's payment system
  • Receive the approved e-visa by email, typically within around 10 working days
  • Print the e-visa approval and present it with your passport on arrival at an Albanian port of entry

Fees & processing time

  • E-visa fee: approximately EUR 50 (~USD 54)
  • Standard processing time: around 10 working days
  • No officially published express service; apply early to avoid relying on faster turnaround
  • Total realistic budget: USD 55-70 including incidental costs

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Apply at least 2-3 weeks before travel to comfortably cover the standard 10 working-day processing window
  • Use only the official e-albania.al portal to avoid third-party overcharging for the same service
  • Common delay causes: unclear accommodation proof or a photo that doesn't meet the required specification
  • Keep a printed copy of the e-visa approval accessible for both arrival checks and hotel registration
  • Albania's e-visa does not permit employment; a separate work permit is needed for paid activity
  • Extensions beyond the approved stay must be requested from Albania's Border and Migration Police before the visa expires
