Singaporean citizens can obtain a visitor permit on arrival in Tuvalu for stays of up to 30 days, extendable, with no advance visa application required.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from date of arrival
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket (flights are mainly via Fiji Airways from Suva)
  • Proof of accommodation in Funafuti
  • Sufficient funds for the duration of stay
  • Completed arrival/visitor permit card, provided at immigration
  • No biometrics required
  • Travel health insurance strongly recommended given very limited medical facilities

Visa types

  • Visitor permit (visa on arrival): granted for tourism or short business visits, up to 30 days, single entry, extendable
  • Business permit: same on-arrival process for short-term business visits, extendable at the Immigration Office in Funafuti
  • Work permit: required for employment, must be sponsored by a local employer and approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs before arrival, not available on arrival

Visa on arrival

  • Arrive at Funafuti International Airport, the only international airport, served mainly by Fiji Airways from Nadi/Suva
  • Present passport, return ticket, and accommodation details to the immigration officer
  • Immigration issues a visitor permit stamp, typically valid for 30 days
  • Permit fee, if any, is minimal and payable in Australian dollars
  • Extensions beyond 30 days can be requested at the Immigration Office in Funafuti before the permit expires, subject to approval

Fees & processing time

  • Visitor permit fee on arrival: typically under AUD 10-20, sometimes waived for short tourist stays
  • Processing is immediate at the airport, no advance application needed
  • Extension fee at the Immigration Office: approximately AUD 20-50, processed within a few days
  • No express or online application system currently available; all processing is in person in Funafuti

Tips for Singapore travelers

  • Flights to Tuvalu are extremely limited (often only 2-3 times per week), so book well ahead and keep your onward ticket handy, as it is checked before permit issuance
  • Bring sufficient Australian dollars in cash; ATM and card payment facilities are very limited on Funafuti
  • Carry comprehensive travel health insurance with medical evacuation coverage given basic local medical facilities
  • Dress modestly and ask permission before photographing people, as Tuvalu is a small, close-knit community
  • If staying beyond 30 days, visit the Immigration Office early since administrative processes can be slow
