What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of arrival in Nigeria and have at least two blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: Apply online via https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/; no downloadable DS-forms; upload a recent passport photo and scanned supporting documents.
  • Financial proof: Bank statements for the last 3 months demonstrating funds; typical guidance asks for funds equivalent to at least USD 1,000 for a single traveler (more for dependents).
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Hotel booking confirmation or invitation letter from a host in Nigeria; confirmed onward/return flight ticket.
  • Photo spec: Passport-style photo 35x45 mm with a white background; taken within the last 6 months; full face visible; no headwear unless for religious reasons; no tinted lenses.
  • Biometrics: Biometrics data is collected as part of the e-Visa process; you may be required to attend biometric enrollment at a Nigerian embassy/consulate or visa center if requested.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory for Nigeria e-Visa; recommended to have travel health insurance for emergencies.

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa (Tourist): Official name Nigeria e-Visa for Tourism; Validity: 90 days from issue date; Max stay per visit: 30 days; Entry: Single; Approx fee: USD 60.
  • Business e-Visa (Business): Official name Nigeria e-Visa for Business; Validity: 90 days from issue date; Max stay per visit: 30 days; Entry: Single; Approx fee: USD 100.
  • Student e-Visa: Not available via the e-Visa portal for Singapore citizens; apply through Nigerian Embassy/Consulate with admission letter; Not applicable via e-Visa; Typical processing times depend on the admission process.
  • Work e-Visa: Not available via the e-Visa portal; requires a Nigerian Embassy/Consulate processing and an employment offer; Not applicable via e-Visa.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: Go to https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/ and create an account.
  • Fill the online application with personal details, passport information, travel plans and purpose of visit.
  • Upload required documents: passport bio-data page, recent photo, hotel booking or invitation letter, and proof of funds; ensure documents match passport details.
  • Pay the visa fee and any portal service charges with a card (USD); you may also be charged an additional online service fee if applicable.
  • Submit the application and wait for processing; standard processing time is 3–5 working days; you will receive the e-Visa by email or via the portal once approved.
  • Print the approved e-Visa or save the e-Visa PDF and present it with your passport on arrival in Nigeria; biometrics may be performed at entry if required by officers.
  • If you cannot apply online, contact the Nigeria High Commission through the official channels listed on https://www.nigeriahighcommission.in/ for guidance.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fees: Tourist USD 60; Business USD 100; portal service charges around USD 20; total approximate: USD 80 for Tourist, USD 120 for Business.
  • Local currency: Payments are processed in USD via the portal; no separate Nigerian e-Visa payment in Naira at the portal (subject to change).
  • VFS/BLS service fee: Not applicable for Nigeria e-Visa when applying via the official portal; if you use any third-party service, extra fees may apply.
  • Total cost estimate: Tourist about USD 80; Business about USD 120 (excluding any express fees).
  • Standard processing time: 3–5 working days; Express/priority: 24–48 hours for an additional fee (around USD 25–40).
  • Express option: Check portal for current express/priority fees at time of application.

Tips for Singapore travelers

  • Apply well in advance: at least 2–4 weeks before travel; prefer 1 month to accommodate processing and potential document checks.
  • Common rejection reasons for Singapore applicants: passport validity less than 6 months, lack of sufficient funds documentation, missing or mismatched travel details (names, dates), incongruent accommodation/invitation letters, low-quality or outdated photos, or inconsistent purpose of visit.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For Nigeria e-Visa, apply online via the official portal; there is no standard VFS/BLS Nigeria e-Visa channel; if you are instructed to use an embassy appointment, use official channels via the Nigeria High Commission website; avoid unverified intermediaries.
  • Travel advisories and bilateral notes: Check the Singapore MFA travel advisories for Nigeria and any Nigerian government travel notices; ensure your vaccination status and entry requirements are up to date; stay aware of security advisories during travel.
  • Extensions inside Nigeria: Extensions of stay are processed by the Nigerian Immigration Service; you should apply before your e-Visa expiry; typical extensions allow an additional period (often up to 30 days) and may require additional fees; approval is not guaranteed.
