What you need

  • Passport validity: must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry; at least two blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: online Libyan e-visa application form via the official portal; no DS-160 or UK VAF1A; digital signature/consent as instructed on the portal.
  • Financial proof: bank statement showing available funds for the trip; minimum recommended: SGD 1,000 (or equivalent in USD) for the stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: confirmed hotel/booked accommodation or invitation letter from host; return flight or onward travel proof showing exit from Libya.
  • Photo spec: recent passport-style photograph 35x45 mm with white background; digital image in JPEG format; minimum 600x600 pixels; file size under 2 MB.
  • Biometrics: not required for online e-visa; the embassy may request biometrics if further verification is needed.
  • Travel health insurance: recommended to have coverage for the entire stay in Libya; not strictly mandatory but advisable.

Visa types

  • Tourist e-visa (Libyan e-visa Tourist): Official name Libyan e-visa Tourist; validity 90 days from issue; max stay 30 days per visit; single entry; approximate fee USD 60 (rough equivalent SGD ~80–85).
  • Business e-visa (Libyan e-visa Business): Official name Libyan e-visa Business; validity 90 days from issue; max stay 30 days; single entry; approximate fee USD 120 (rough equivalent SGD ~160–170).
  • Student e-visa: Not available via the online e-visa portal at present; requires direct embassy processing with additional documentation.
  • Work e-visa: Not available via online e-visa portal; requires embassy processing with employer/sponsorship and visa requirements.

Application process

  • How to apply online: go to the official Libyan embassy portal at https://www.embassyoflibya.org/ and create an account.
  • Steps: complete the online e-visa application form; upload required documents (passport scan, photo, travel itinerary, hotel/invitation letter, financial proof); pay the visa fee online in USD or SGD; submit the application.
  • Fee and processing time: pay the applicable e-visa fee (USD 60 for Tourist, USD 120 for Business); standard processing is 3–5 working days; approvals are sent by email as an e-visa attachment or a downloadable link.
  • How approval arrives: you will receive an email with the e-visa document or a secure link; print the e-visa and carry it to Libya; no physical sticker visa is required unless instructed otherwise.
  • Biometrics: if requested later, you may be asked to provide biometrics at a Libyan embassy or consulate; this is not normally required at application but could be requested for verification.

  • Visa fee (online e-visa): Tourist USD 60 (approx SGD 80–85); Business USD 120 (approx SGD 160–170).

  • Express/priority option: not publicly advertised for the Libyan e-visa; if available, any express option would carry additional charges and be confirmed during the online submission.

Tips for Singapore travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: aim to apply at least 2–3 weeks before planned travel to account for processing and any document verification.
  • Common rejection reasons for Singapore applicants: insufficient passport validity or blank pages; mismatch between submitted documents and travel dates; insufficient funds proof; lack of confirmed accommodation or return ticket; unclear travel purpose.
