What you need

  • Passport validity: must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry; ensure data page is clear and readable. A passport with at least 2 blank visa pages is recommended even for electronic processing.
  • Specific forms: complete the online eVisa application at https://laoevisa.gov.la/ and print the approved eVisa statement to present at border.
  • Financial proof: not required for the Laos eVisa; no mandatory bank statements. Carry enough funds for your stay as a precaution.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: not mandatory in the online submission, but carry hotel bookings and a return/onward flight itinerary in case immigration requests them.
  • Photo spec: uploaded digital photo must be a recent color photograph with a white background, 35x45 mm (roughly 2x2 inches) head-and-shoulders shot; file format JPEG/JPG; file size under 300 KB.
  • Biometrics: yes. Biometric data (photograph and fingerprints) may be collected on arrival at the immigration checkpoint.
  • Travel health insurance: not required by Lao authorities for entry, but recommended to have coverage for the duration of your stay.

  • Tourist visa (Tourist eVisa): Official name Tourist eVisa; Validity 90 days from date of issue; Max stay per entry 30 days; Entry Single; Approx fee USD 50.
  • Business visa (Business eVisa): Official name Business eVisa; Validity 90 days from date of issue; Max stay per entry 30 days; Entry Single; Approx fee USD 60.
  • Student visa: Official name Student visa (issued via MOFA/Lao Embassy); Validity and stay depend on invitation/education program; Entry Single; Approx fee USD 70–100 (depends on process). Note: Often processed through Lao MOFA and/or Lao Embassy; eVisa route may not be available for all student programs.
  • Work visa: Official name Work visa (employee visa); Validity up to 12 months with possible extension; Entry Single; Approx fee USD 75 (subject to MOFA approval and employer sponsorship).
  • Important: For Singapore citizens, Tourist eVisa is the most commonly used option for short visits. Longer or specialized categories (Student/Work) typically require invitations and processing through Lao MOFA or a Lao Embassy/Consulate.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: Go to https://laoevisa.gov.la/ and create your account. Complete the eVisa application form with your personal details, travel plans, and passport information. Upload the required photo and a scanned copy of the data page of your passport. Select the Tourist eVisa option (or other category if applicable) and pay the visa fee with a credit/debit card. You will receive an email with your eVisa approval letter. Print the eVisa approval and carry it to Laos.
  • Fee and payment: eVisa fee is USD 50 for Tourist; payment is by card through the portal. Local cash payments are not accepted for the online application.
  • Processing time: Standard processing is typically 3–5 working days. Express/urgent processing may be available for an additional fee (often 20–30 USD) and can reduce processing to 1–2 days.
  • How approval arrives: The approval notice is delivered by email as a PDF or official document. Print the document and present it along with your passport at Lao border checkpoints.
