On arrival you must present your passport and demonstrate the purpose of visit (e.g., accommodation and onward/return ticket). You must not engage in paid work or activities that are not allowed under the temporary visitor status. The immigration officer at the port of entry determines eligibility for admission. If you plan to stay longer or work in Japan, you must obtain an appropriate visa before travel (e.g., student, work) and/or depart and re-enter under a new status. Extensions of the visa-free stay are generally not granted; if you need longer stay, contact a local Immigration Bureau or apply for a long-term visa from outside Japan.
