What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least six months from date of arrival in India and have at least two blank pages.
  • Specific forms: no separate DS-160 or VAF form; apply entirely online on indianvisaonline.gov.in for the e-Visa; no in-person consular form submission.
  • Financial proof: no fixed bank statement upload is required for the e-Visa application; you may be asked to show funds by immigration on arrival if requested; carry evidence of sufficient funds for your stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: proof of hotels or invitation letter is not mandatory for e-Visa approval but you should have accommodation arrangements and a return/onward ticket or travel plan as supporting evidence.
  • Photo spec: recent passport-style color photo with white background; size approximately 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm); JPEG format, following portal requirements.
  • Biometrics: no biometrics submission is required as part of the e-Visa application; biometric collection on arrival is at the discretion of immigration authorities.
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory for e-Visa but highly recommended to carry travel medical insurance for the duration of your trip.

  • Steps: fill the online form with personal details, passport information, travel details; upload a passport-style photo and required documents; pay the visa fee using a credit/debit card or net banking.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee (approximate, USD): Tourist 25; Business 80; Medical 80; Conference 80.
  • Any additional VFS/BLS service fees: not applicable for online e-Visa application; no separate consular submission required.
  • Total cost estimate: depends on category; roughly USD 25–80 for the visa portion plus the online payment processing.
  • Standard processing time: 3–5 working days; expedited processing not generally offered for e-Visa; delays can occur during holidays or system maintenance.
  • Express/priority: not typically available for the e-Visa portal; ensure you apply well in advance.

Tips for Singapore travelers

  • Apply well in advance: at least 7–14 days before your planned travel date to allow for processing and any potential delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for Singapore applicants: passport validity less than six months; passport has fewer than two blank pages in traditional visas (not always required for e-Visa but common caution); photo quality not meeting specifications; data mismatch between passport and application; travel dates not aligning with visa purpose; insufficient information or documents.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: e-Visa is applied directly online; for a regular (sticker) visa or other categories, you may need to apply via the Indian Mission/Embassy or its authorized service provider (VFS/BLS) depending on category and location.
  • Travel advisories: check the latest travel advisories from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Singaporean government; bilateral travel norms can change; ensure you comply with current COVID-19 or other health-related entry requirements if applicable.
  • Extension options inside India: e-Visa extensions are generally not available; to stay longer you must exit India and re-enter on a new e-Visa or apply for a different visa category through an Indian Mission, if eligible.
