Uganda Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Visa Free

As a fellow East African Community partner state, Kenyan citizens can enter Uganda visa-free for up to 90 days using either a national passport or an East African Community e-ID/passport — no visa application is needed for tourism, business, or family visits.

Guide last updated September 26, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • A valid Kenyan passport (or East African Community passport/national ID for cross-border land travel)
  • No advance visa application, form, or online registration is required for EAC-partner-state entry
  • Proof of onward travel is good practice, though rarely strictly checked between EAC states
  • Sufficient funds for your stay, in case requested at the border
  • No photos or biometric enrolment are needed in advance; routine biometric capture may occur at major border points as part of standard immigration procedure
  • Travel/medical insurance is optional but recommended, especially for travel beyond major towns

Visa types

  • EAC Visa-Free Entry - available to Kenyan citizens by virtue of Uganda and Kenya's shared East African Community membership; allows stays of up to 90 days per calendar year for tourism, business meetings, or family visits
  • East African Tourist Visa - a separate multiple-entry visa covering Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda together, useful if you plan to also visit Rwanda; Kenyan citizens generally do not need this for Uganda alone since EAC entry already applies
  • Work Permit - required separately for any employment in Uganda, applied for through the Uganda Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control

Entry conditions

  • Kenyan citizens may enter and remain in Uganda for up to 90 days without a visa, for tourism, business, or family purposes
  • Employment or any paid work is not covered under this free-movement arrangement and requires a separate work permit
  • At the border or airport, present your passport (or EAC ID for land crossings) for an entry stamp; no fee applies
  • If you plan to stay beyond 90 days, register with the Uganda Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control before the 90-day period lapses
  • Land border crossings such as Busia and Malaba are typically faster than the Entebbe airport queue during peak hours

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee applies under the EAC free-movement arrangement
  • No VFS or embassy step is required in advance
  • Total cost is limited to standard travel expenses; there is no immigration charge for entry
  • Processing at the border is typically just a passport stamp, taking a few minutes per traveler
  • If you later need an extension or a work permit, budget separately for those government fees and allow several weeks for permit processing

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Carry your Kenyan passport even for land crossings, since some border posts still prefer it over the EAC ID for record-keeping
  • Keep a note of your entry date, since Uganda's immigration system tracks cumulative days under the 90-day annual allowance
  • If traveling onward to Rwanda too, consider the East African Tourist Visa, which is more relevant for non-EAC nationals but can simplify multi-country itineraries
  • Land border crossings at Busia, Malaba, or Suam are generally quicker and less congested than Entebbe International Airport
  • For anything beyond tourism (business setup, employment), start the separate Ugandan work permit process well before travel, since it is not covered by the free-movement rule
