Guide last updated September 26, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • Completed online e-visa application at evisa.tj with a scanned passport bio-page
  • Digital passport-style photo uploaded during application
  • Confirmed travel itinerary (flight booking)
  • Proof of accommodation in Tajikistan
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay
  • No biometrics required for the e-visa; travel health insurance recommended, especially for visits to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), which needs a separate permit

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa — single entry, valid for a stay of up to 45-60 days depending on the category selected
  • Business e-Visa — single entry, requires an invitation letter from a Tajik company or organization
  • GBAO Permit add-on — required in addition to the visa for travel to the Pamir Highway/GBAO region, requested during the same e-visa application

How to apply online

  • Kenyan travelers apply directly through the official government portal at evisa.tj. Register an account, complete the application form with personal and travel details, upload the passport scan and photo, select the visa type (and GBAO permit if needed), and pay online by card. Approval is sent by email as a downloadable e-visa document, which should be printed and carried along with the passport for presentation on arrival.

Fees & processing time

  • E-visa fee: approximately USD 50 for the standard tourist e-visa; the GBAO permit adds a modest additional fee, around USD 20
  • No third-party service fee when applying directly on evisa.tj; avoid unofficial lookalike sites that charge extra
  • Standard processing time: 3-5 working days
  • An express service (24-48 hours) is available on the official portal for a higher fee

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply at least a week before travel and double-check that the GBAO permit is included if visiting the Pamir region
  • Common rejection reasons include mismatched personal details, unclear passport scans, or an unclear travel purpose
  • Only use the official evisa.tj website; unofficial third-party sites often charge inflated fees for the same service
  • Register with local authorities (OVIR) if staying beyond the permitted registration-free period, as required by Tajik law
  • Extensions must be requested from the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs or OVIR before the e-visa expires
