What you need

  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond the intended stay
  • Completed online e-visa application with a scanned passport bio-page
  • Digital passport photo uploaded during application
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation in Suriname
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the visit
  • No biometrics required for the e-visa itself; travel/medical insurance recommended

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa — single entry, valid for use within 90 days of issue, for a stay of up to 90 days
  • Business e-Visa — single entry, similar validity, requires an invitation or business documentation
  • Multiple-entry visa — available through the Surinamese Embassy for frequent travelers, not via the standard e-visa portal

How to apply online

  • Kenyan travelers apply through the official Suriname e-visa portal, accessed via VFS Global's Suriname visa services since Suriname does not maintain an embassy in Kenya. Create an account, fill in personal and travel details, upload the required documents, and pay the fee online by card. Approval is emailed as a PDF, which should be printed and carried along with the passport; the e-visa reference number may also be checked at the border.

Fees & processing time

  • E-visa fee: approximately USD 25 for single entry
  • Service fee if applying via a visa facilitation partner: an additional USD 10-20 may apply
  • Standard processing time: 3-5 working days
  • Express processing may be available for an additional fee through the facilitation partner

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply at least 1-2 weeks before travel to allow for processing and any requests for extra documents
  • Common rejection reasons include blurry document scans, mismatched personal details, or insufficient proof of funds
  • Since Suriname has no embassy in Kenya, applying via the e-visa portal or the nearest Surinamese diplomatic mission is the practical route
  • Carry a printed copy of the e-visa approval, as border agents may not always have reliable internet access to verify it electronically
  • Extensions inside Suriname are handled by the Immigration Department in Paramaribo and require justification for the extra stay
