What you need

  • Passport valid at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least one blank page
  • Visa-on-arrival application form, available at the airport
  • Letter of invitation or hotel booking confirmation (recommended, sometimes requested)
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate, mandatory for entry
  • One or two passport photos in case the on-arrival form requires them
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay
  • No biometrics beyond a photograph and fingerprint scan taken by immigration on arrival

Visa types

  • Tourist visa on arrival — single entry, valid for a stay of up to 30 days
  • Business visa on arrival — single entry, up to 30 days, requires a company invitation letter
  • Ordinary/sticker visa — available in advance through the Sudanese Embassy for travelers who prefer not to rely on the on-arrival option, or who need multiple entries

Visa on arrival

  • Kenyan travelers land at Khartoum International Airport (or another authorized port) and proceed to the visa-on-arrival desk before immigration. Present your passport, yellow fever certificate, and, if available, an invitation letter or hotel booking. Pay the fee in cash USD, as cards are rarely accepted. Processing at the counter generally takes 30-60 minutes depending on queue length. Land border crossings may have more limited visa-on-arrival availability, so arriving by air is recommended.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-on-arrival fee: approximately USD 100, payable in cash and periodically revised
  • No separate service or VFS fee, since it is issued directly by immigration at the airport
  • Standard processing: 30-60 minutes at the airport counter
  • No express option; delays can occur during peak arrival times or if the counter is short-staffed

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Carry exact USD cash in good condition, as change may not always be available
  • Always travel with your yellow fever certificate; Sudan enforces this strictly given Kenya's endemic status
  • Check current travel advisories and entry restrictions before booking, as rules can change with little notice given the security and political situation
  • Having an invitation letter or confirmed hotel booking speeds up the on-arrival process significantly
  • Extensions beyond 30 days must be arranged with Sudanese immigration authorities in Khartoum before the visa expires
