Visa on Arrival

Kenyan citizens receive a stamped entry visa on arrival at Blaise Diagne International Airport (Dakar) or land borders, valid for up to 90 days, without needing to apply in advance.

Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of arrival
  • No advance visa form — entry visa is issued on arrival against a completed disembarkation card
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host's address)
  • Proof of funds: cash, card, or bank statement showing means to support the stay
  • Passport photo not required for the on-arrival visa, but 2 photos are useful if you later apply for a residence card
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo captured at the immigration counter on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: recommended; yellow fever vaccination certificate is required since Kenya is a yellow-fever-endemic country

Visa types

  • Tourist Entry Visa — issued on arrival, single entry, valid up to 90 days
  • Business Entry Visa — issued on arrival with an invitation letter from a Senegalese company, up to 90 days
  • Long-stay Visa (Carte de Sejour) — applied for after arrival at the Senegalese immigration directorate for stays beyond 90 days or for work/study purposes

Visa on arrival

  • Arrive at Blaise Diagne International Airport (Dakar) or an authorized land border post
  • Present your passport, yellow fever certificate, and completed arrival card to the Police de l'Air et des Frontieres (border police)
  • An immigration officer stamps a 90-day entry visa into your passport at no separate visa fee for most short tourist stays
  • Business travelers should have their invitation letter ready to show alongside their passport
  • Processing at the airport is typically quick, taking a few minutes per traveler outside of peak arrival times

Fees & processing time

  • Standard 90-day entry visa on arrival: no fee for most nationalities including Kenya
  • Airport security/tourism tax may apply separately (a few thousand CFA francs, collected with airline ticket or at the airport)
  • Extension or Carte de Sejour application at the Direction de la Police des Etrangers et des Titres de Voyage (Dakar): approximately CFA 15,000-20,000 (approx. USD 25-35)
  • Extension processing time: 5-10 working days
  • No express option for the on-arrival visa since it is issued immediately

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Carry your yellow fever certificate at all times — Senegal actively checks this on arrival for travelers from Kenya
  • Keep your return or onward ticket accessible, as officers occasionally ask to see it during passport control
  • If planning to stay past 90 days, begin the Carte de Sejour application at least 2 weeks before the entry visa expires
  • Kenya Airways operates direct flights to Dakar, which simplifies travel compared to connecting through Europe
  • Common issues for Kenyan travelers include not having proof of accommodation ready, so book at least the first few nights before departure
