Montenegro Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Kenyan citizens need a national visa to visit Montenegro, applied for in advance through the nearest Montenegrin embassy or an accredited mission, as there is no visa waiver for Kenya passport holders.

Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from Montenegro
  • Completed Montenegro visa application form
  • Proof of purpose of travel (hotel bookings, invitation letter, or business correspondence)
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months showing sufficient funds
  • Proof of employment or business ownership in Kenya
  • Confirmed round-trip flight itinerary
  • Two recent passport-size photos (35mm x 45mm, white background)
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo captured in person at the visa interview at the Montenegrin embassy or accredited mission handling Kenya applications
  • Travel health insurance with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000, valid for the Montenegro visit

Visa types

  • Type C Short-Stay Visa: single or multiple entry, valid for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period, fee approx. EUR 60
  • Business Visa: same category, requires an invitation letter from a Montenegrin company, similar fee and validity
  • Type D long-stay visa: for study, work, or longer residence, applied for separately with employer/institution sponsorship

How to apply

  • Since Montenegro does not have an embassy in Kenya, applications are typically submitted through the nearest accredited Montenegrin embassy (often in another regional capital) or via an honorary consul, as instructed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro
  • Book an appointment where required and submit the completed application with all supporting documents
  • Attend an interview if requested by the mission
  • Standard processing time is approximately 10-15 working days from submission, though it can take longer given the regional accreditation setup
  • Passports are returned with the visa affixed once approved, either in person or by courier depending on the mission's process

Fees & processing time

  • Standard visa fee: approximately EUR 60, payable at the time of application
  • No VFS/BLS outsourcing is typically used for Montenegro visas in this region; fees are paid directly to the embassy/mission
  • Standard processing: approximately 10-15 working days once documents are complete
  • No dedicated express service is generally available; apply well ahead of travel dates

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks in advance given the added time for regionally-accredited mission processing
  • Common rejection reasons include insufficient proof of funds, unclear travel purpose, and weak evidence of ties to Kenya
  • Confirm the current accredited Montenegrin mission handling Kenya applications directly, as arrangements can change
  • Ensure your travel health insurance clearly states EUR 30,000 minimum coverage and validity for Montenegro
  • Keep certified copies of all financial and employment documents in case originals are requested at interview
