Mexico Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Kenyan citizens generally need a Mexican visa obtained in advance from a Mexican consulate, though holders of a valid US, Canadian, Schengen, UK, or Japanese visa may qualify for a visa-free Electronic Authorization instead.

Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay
  • Completed Mexican visa application form (submitted online via the consulate's appointment system)
  • Proof of purpose of travel (invitation letter, hotel bookings, or business correspondence)
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months showing sufficient funds (or a sponsor's financial guarantee letter)
  • Proof of employment or business ownership in Kenya (payslips, employer letter, or company registration)
  • Confirmed round-trip flight itinerary
  • Two recent passport-size photos (white background)
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo captured in person at the visa interview at the Mexican consulate/embassy handling Kenya applications
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but recommended

Visa types

  • Visitor Visa without permission to work (tourist/business): single or multiple entry, valid up to 180 days per visit, fee approx. USD 44 (payable in local currency equivalent)
  • Note: Kenyan citizens who already hold a valid US visa, Canadian visa, Schengen visa, UK visa, or Japanese visa may instead be eligible to apply online for Mexico's Electronic Authorization (similar to a visa waiver), which is faster and does not require an in-person interview
  • Business Visa: same category as above with an invitation letter from a Mexican company, same fee and validity

How to apply

  • Since there is no Mexican consulate in Kenya, applications are typically handled by the Mexican embassy accredited to Kenya (regionally, often based in another African capital) or via mail-in application as instructed by that mission
  • Book an appointment (if an in-person interview is required) and complete the online application form (SEGOB format) in advance
  • Gather and submit all required documents, including financial proof and travel purpose evidence
  • Attend the interview if required, or submit documents as instructed for mail-based processing
  • Standard processing time is approximately 10 working days from submission, though it can take longer via mail-based routes
  • If eligible for the Electronic Authorization (via an existing US/Schengen/UK/Canada/Japan visa), apply online instead - this is faster and does not require consulate submission

Fees & processing time

  • Standard visa fee: approximately USD 44, payable at the time of application
  • No VFS/BLS outsourcing is generally used for Mexico visas in this region; fees are paid directly to the consulate/embassy
  • Standard processing: approximately 10 working days once documents are complete, longer if applying by mail
  • Electronic Authorization (if eligible via an existing US/UK/Schengen/Canada/Japan visa): typically processed within 1-4 working days online, minimal fee (a few USD)

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Check first whether you hold a valid US, Canadian, Schengen, UK, or Japanese visa, as this can qualify you for Mexico's faster Electronic Authorization instead of a full visa application
  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks in advance given the added time for mail-based or regionally-accredited consulate processing
  • Common rejection reasons include insufficient proof of funds, unclear itinerary, and weak evidence of ties to Kenya
  • Keep certified copies of all financial and employment documents, as originals may be required at interview
  • Confirm the current accredited Mexican mission handling Kenya applications directly, as consular arrangements can change
