Mauritania Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Kenyan citizens can apply for a Mauritania e-visa online before travel, with approval typically issued within a few days and the visa collected on arrival at Nouakchott airport.

Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed online e-visa application with a digital passport bio-data page scan
  • Recent passport-style digital photo (white background) uploaded during the application
  • Proof of onward or return travel (flight itinerary)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate, mandatory for travelers arriving from Kenya
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo captured at the airport immigration counter upon arrival, even though the visa is pre-approved online

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa: single entry, valid for a stay of up to 30 days, must be used within 90 days of issuance
  • Business e-Visa: same online process, requires an invitation letter from a Mauritanian company, single entry, up to 30 days
  • Longer-stay or multiple-entry visas require a separate application through a Mauritanian embassy where available

How to apply online

  • Applications are submitted through Mauritania's official e-visa portal (linked from the Ministry of Interior/Foreign Affairs)
  • Create an account, fill in personal and travel details, and upload your passport scan and photo
  • Pay the e-visa fee online by credit/debit card
  • Approval is typically communicated by email within 2-5 working days
  • Print the e-visa approval and present it along with your passport at Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport, where an entry stamp is issued after biometric capture
  • Keep a digital copy on your phone as backup in case of printing issues

Fees & processing time

  • E-visa fee: approximately USD 120-160 depending on validity and entry type, paid online at application
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee, as the portal is operated directly by Mauritanian authorities
  • Standard processing time: 2-5 working days from submission
  • No formal express option is advertised; apply at least 1-2 weeks before travel to allow for delays

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply for the e-visa at least 2 weeks before departure to allow time for processing and any follow-up document requests
  • Double-check that your yellow fever certificate is valid, as it is checked on arrival alongside your visa approval
  • Keep both a printed and digital copy of the e-visa approval letter
  • Have your hotel booking or invitation letter easily accessible, as immigration officers may request it on arrival
  • Carry some USD cash, as card payment infrastructure can be limited outside major hotels in Nouakchott
