Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • No pre-arranged visa application form; the arrival visa is granted automatically at immigration
  • Confirmed onward or return flight ticket
  • Proof of confirmed accommodation booking (resort, hotel, or registered guesthouse) for every night of the stay
  • Sufficient funds to cover the stay (approx. USD 100/day, or a prepaid resort package)
  • IMUGA online Traveller Declaration Form must be completed within 96 hours before arrival at imuga.immigration.gov.mv
  • Biometrics: photo and fingerprint scan taken at Velana International Airport immigration counter
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory, but useful given costly medical evacuation from resort islands

Visa types

  • Free 30-day Tourist Visa on Arrival: issued to all nationalities including Kenya, single entry, non-extendable business use
  • Extension: can be extended once for up to 90 days total by applying online through the Maldives Immigration website, fee USD 100 for the extension
  • Business Visa: for those attending meetings, requires a sponsor letter from a locally registered Maldivian company, arranged separately, valid up to 90 days

Visa on arrival

  • Visa on arrival is issued automatically at Velana International Airport (Male) or any other designated port of entry
  • No advance application is required; simply present your passport, IMUGA declaration confirmation, accommodation proof, and return ticket
  • Processing takes only a few minutes at the immigration desk once documents are verified
  • No fee is charged for the standard 30-day visa on arrival
  • Officers may ask to see your resort/hotel booking confirmation printed or on your phone
  • Payment for any extension is made online via the Maldives Immigration e-service portal in USD

Fees & processing time

  • Initial 30-day visa on arrival: free of charge
  • Extension to 90 days: USD 100, processed online within 1-3 working days
  • No VFS/BLS service fee applies since there is no embassy application step
  • Total cost is effectively zero unless staying beyond 30 days

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Submit the IMUGA Traveller Declaration online before departure to speed up immigration clearance
  • Book your resort/hotel through a registered operator, as unregistered guesthouses may cause issues at immigration
  • Carry a printed copy of your return ticket and accommodation voucher in case of connectivity issues on arrival
  • Budget for resort-based costs in USD, as most resorts price and bill in US dollars
  • If island-hopping between resorts, keep all booking confirmations for each leg of the trip
