Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed online e-visa application
  • Digital passport-size photo
  • Scanned passport bio-data page
  • Invitation letter from a Libyan sponsor, company, or hotel (often required)
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo typically captured on arrival, where entry procedures allow

Visa types

  • Business e-visa — single entry, valid 30 days, requires a Libyan sponsor/company invitation, fee approximately USD 100-150
  • Tourist e-visa — limited availability given current conditions, similar validity and fee
  • Transit visa — for onward travel, shorter validity, lower fee, arranged directly through the embassy

How to apply online

  • Apply through the Libyan embassy's online e-visa portal (embassyoflibya.org), which also serves as the embassy's contact point given the absence of a Libyan mission in Kenya
  • Upload the invitation letter, passport scan, and photo, and complete the application form
  • Pay the visa fee online or via bank transfer as instructed by the embassy
  • Processing typically takes 5-10 business days, sometimes longer due to additional security vetting
  • Carry a printed copy of the approval along with the sponsor's original invitation letter

Fees & processing time

  • E-visa fee: approximately USD 100-150 depending on visa type and sponsor arrangement
  • No separate VFS fee, as applications go directly through the embassy
  • Total estimated cost: USD 100-150 plus any sponsor facilitation charges
  • Standard processing: 5-10 business days
  • No formal express option; given security clearance requirements, apply well in advance

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Secure a reliable local sponsor or company invitation before applying, as this significantly affects approval speed
  • Common rejection reasons: missing or unverifiable invitation letter, incomplete documentation, security concerns during vetting
  • Check current travel advisories closely given the security situation in parts of Libya before finalizing any trip
  • Since Kenya has no Libyan embassy, confirm the correct regional mission or online channel currently handling Kenyan applications
  • Extensions of stay must be arranged with Libyan immigration authorities before the visa's validity expires
