  • E-visa fee: approximately USD 40, paid online by card
  • Total estimated cost: USD 30-45
  • Processing time: 15-30 minutes on arrival; e-visa approval online takes about 3 business days

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Carry exact USD cash for the visa-on-arrival fee, as change and card payment are not always available
  • Common issues at the counter: incomplete arrival form, missing passport photo, insufficient remaining passport validity
  • Pre-applying online via laoevisa.gov.la is recommended during peak travel season to avoid long queues
  • Extensions of up to 30 additional days can be arranged at the Immigration Department in Vientiane
  • Confirm any transit visa needs for connecting flights, since direct Nairobi-Vientiane routes are uncommon
