Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Digital passport photo uploaded during the online application
  • Scanned copy of the passport bio-data page
  • Confirmed hotel booking or invitation letter for the stay
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the trip
  • No biometrics required for the e-Visa itself; standard immigration checks apply on arrival

Visa types

  • e-Visa Tourist: single entry, up to 30 days, fee approx. USD 20-40
  • e-Visa Business: single or double entry, requires an invitation letter from a Kazakh company, fee approx. USD 40-80
  • Transit e-Visa: for short stopovers, up to 5 days
  • Regular sticker visa: available through the Kazakh Embassy for longer stays, work, or study purposes not covered online

How to apply online

  • Register and apply at the official e-Visa portal (evisa.gov.kz, linked from vmp.gov.kz)
  • Upload the passport bio-page scan and a recent digital photo
  • Pay the fee online by credit/debit card
  • Approval is sent by email as a PDF authorization; print it and present it with the passport at check-in and on arrival
  • Confirm the designated entry points valid for e-Visa holders before finalizing travel plans

Fees & processing time

  • e-Visa fee: approximately USD 20-40 for tourist, up to USD 80 for business, inclusive of the online processing charge
  • No additional service center fee since the process is entirely online
  • Standard processing time: 3-5 business days
  • No guaranteed express service; apply at least 1-2 weeks before travel to allow for any delays
  • On-arrival verification of the e-Visa is generally quick

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply online well ahead of departure since airlines will check for a valid e-Visa before boarding
  • Common rejection reasons: mismatched passport details, low-quality photo uploads, or incomplete trip information
  • Registration with local authorities may be required within a few days of arrival for stays beyond a short threshold - check current rules before travel
  • Carry both a printed and digital copy of the approved e-Visa for check-in and immigration
  • Extensions beyond the e-Visa validity require an in-person application to Kazakh immigration authorities before the visa expires
