Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • At least 1 blank page for the visa stamp
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation for the stay
  • Sufficient funds for the duration of the visit
  • No photos or biometrics are required at the VOA counter
  • Travel insurance is recommended, though not mandatory for VOA entry

Visa types

  • Visa on Arrival (Single entry): up to 30 days, extendable, fee JOD 40
  • Jordan Pass (combined visa waiver + Petra and site admissions): available online in advance, waives the visa fee for travelers staying at least 3 nights and visiting Petra
  • Business visa: arranged in advance through the Jordanian Embassy with an invitation letter
  • Multiple-entry visa: available for frequent visitors, arranged in advance through the embassy or via Jordan's Ministry of Interior

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Queen Alia International Airport, Aqaba, and most land/sea border crossings except the King Hussein Bridge crossing from the West Bank, which requires a pre-arranged visa
  • On arrival, proceed to the visa counter before immigration, pay the fee, and receive the visa stamp
  • Purchasing the Jordan Pass online before travel (for those staying 3+ nights and visiting Petra) removes the need to pay the separate visa fee on arrival
  • Payment is accepted in Jordanian Dinar and often by card; carrying JOD cash speeds up the process
  • Processing at the counter typically takes 10-20 minutes

Fees & processing time

  • VOA fee: JOD 40 (approx. USD 56)
  • Jordan Pass: prices vary by tier (approx. JOD 70-80), but includes the visa fee waiver and Petra admission
  • No separate service center fee since it is issued directly by immigration
  • On-the-spot issuance at the airport or land border, generally under 30 minutes
  • Extension at a local police/immigration office costs a modest additional fee and takes a few working days

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Consider the Jordan Pass in advance if planning to stay 3+ nights and visit Petra, since it both waives the visa fee and reduces site admission costs
  • Common issues: insufficient passport validity or arriving via the King Hussein Bridge without a pre-arranged visa
  • Extensions must be requested before the current 30-day stamp expires at a local police station or immigration office
  • Overstaying incurs a daily fine, so track the exact expiry date stamped in the passport
  • Carry small JOD cash denominations for the visa fee to avoid delays at busy arrival times
