Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival
  • At least 1 blank page for the visa sticker/stamp
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation for the stay
  • Sufficient funds for the duration of the visit (may be checked by immigration officers)
  • No biometrics or photos required at the border, though passport photos may be useful as backup
  • Travel insurance is recommended though not strictly mandatory for VOA

Visa types

  • Visa on Arrival (VOA): single entry, 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days at a local immigration office, fee IDR 500,000
  • e-VOA: the same visa purchased online in advance via molina.imigrasi.go.id, allowing faster passage on arrival
  • B211A Visit Visa (via sponsor or agent): for business or social visits up to 60 days, extendable, arranged before travel
  • Regular Tourist/Social/Business sticker visa: available through the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi for longer or multiple-entry needs

Visa on arrival

  • Available at major international airports (Soekarno-Hatta Jakarta, Ngurah Rai Bali, Kualanamu Medan, and others) and select seaports
  • On arrival, proceed to the VOA counter before immigration, pay the fee, and receive the visa sticker or stamp
  • Alternatively, pre-purchase the e-VOA online before departure for a quicker process, using a QR code scanned on arrival
  • Payment at the counter is accepted in Indonesian Rupiah and often by card; carrying exact IDR cash is recommended to avoid queues
  • Keep the receipt; it may be requested when extending the visa

Fees & processing time

  • VOA fee: IDR 500,000 (approx. USD 32-34)
  • e-VOA online fee: the same IDR 500,000 plus a small payment processing charge
  • No separate service center fee since it is issued directly by immigration
  • On-the-spot issuance at the airport, typically taking 10-20 minutes depending on queue length
  • Extension at a local immigration office costs approximately IDR 500,000-1,000,000 and takes about 3-5 working days

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Pre-purchasing the e-VOA online before the flight significantly speeds up the airport process
  • Common issues for travelers: insufficient passport validity, no onward ticket, or arriving at a port that does not offer VOA
  • Extensions must be started before the current 30-day stamp expires - apply at a local Imigrasi office at least 7 days ahead
  • Overstaying incurs a fine of IDR 1,000,000 per day, so track the expiry date carefully
  • For stays beyond 60 days or purposes such as remote work, consider the B211A visa arranged in advance rather than relying on VOA extensions
