India Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Kenyan citizens can apply for an Indian e-Visa online at indianvisaonline.gov.in — e-Tourist fee around USD 25-80 depending on duration, processing 3-5 business days.

Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Digital passport-style photo, 2x2 inches, white background, uploaded during the online application
  • Scanned copy of the passport bio-data page
  • Return or onward flight ticket (may be requested at immigration)
  • Proof of accommodation for the stay
  • Sufficient funds to cover the trip (bank statement recommended, not always mandatory)
  • No biometrics required for the e-Visa; biometrics are only captured for longer-term visas processed at a mission

Visa types

  • e-Tourist Visa: 30 days (double entry, approx. USD 25), 1 year (multiple entry, approx. USD 40), or 5 years (multiple entry, approx. USD 80)
  • e-Business Visa: 1 year multiple entry, approx. USD 80, for meetings and trade activities
  • e-Medical Visa and e-Medical Attendant Visa: short-term, for treatment at recognized Indian hospitals
  • Regular sticker Tourist/Business/Student visa: available through the Indian High Commission in Nairobi for longer stays or purposes not covered by e-Visa

How to apply online

  • Apply at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days and up to 120 days before travel
  • Fill in personal, passport, and trip details, and upload the photo and passport bio-page scan
  • Pay the fee online by credit/debit card in USD
  • Approval (ETA) is emailed as a PDF; print it or save it on a phone to show at check-in and immigration
  • Entry is permitted only through designated airports and seaports listed on the e-Visa portal

Fees & processing time

  • e-Tourist Visa fee: approx. USD 25 (30-day), USD 40 (1-year), USD 80 (5-year), plus a small bank processing charge
  • No separate service center fee since the process is fully online
  • Standard processing time: 3-5 business days for e-Visa approval
  • No formal express option; applying closer to the earliest eligible date (4 days before travel) does not guarantee faster turnaround
  • Regular sticker visas at the High Commission carry their own separate fee schedule and processing times

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply well before travel; while approval can come in 3-5 business days, applying with a buffer avoids last-minute issues
  • Common rejection reasons: mismatched passport details, blurry or non-compliant photo, applying too close to or too far from the travel date
  • Carry a printed copy of the e-Visa approval and passport together at check-in, as airlines verify it before boarding
  • The e-Tourist visa allows a maximum continuous stay of 90 days per visit (180 days for some nationalities on the 5-year visa) - check current rules for Kenyan passport holders on the official portal
  • Extensions beyond the e-Visa validity require an in-person application to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in India
