Iceland Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area, with 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • 2 recent passport photos, 35x45mm, white background
  • Travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000, valid across the Schengen area for the full trip
  • Confirmed accommodation (hotel bookings or invitation letter)
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Proof of funds: 3 months' bank statements showing at least ISK equivalent of roughly EUR 60-80 per day, or a sponsorship letter
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) collected in person at the designated visa application center

Visa types

  • Schengen Tourist visa (Type C): single or multiple entry, up to 90 days per 180-day period, fee EUR 90
  • Schengen Business visa (Type C): for conferences and meetings, same 90/180 rule, fee EUR 90
  • National long-stay visa (Type D): for study or work exceeding 90 days, applied for directly with Icelandic immigration (Utlendingastofnun)
  • Transit visa: rarely needed for Iceland given its geographic position, fee EUR 80 if required

How to apply

  • Since Iceland has no consulate in Kenya, applications are typically routed through a designated Schengen partner mission or VFS-type center handling Icelandic visas for the region
  • Complete the online application, gather the document checklist, and book an appointment
  • Submit documents and biometrics in person; pay the visa fee at the time of application
  • Processing decisions are returned to the applicant by courier or in-person collection
  • Interviews are uncommon but possible for borderline applications

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: EUR 90 (approx. KES 13,000-14,000)
  • Service/handling fee at the application center: approximately EUR 25-30
  • Total estimated cost: EUR 115-120
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days for a complete application, up to 30-45 days in more complex cases
  • No express service is generally available; factor in extra time given the lack of a local Icelandic mission

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks ahead since applications route through a partner mission and can take longer to process
  • Common rejection reasons: insufficient funds for Iceland's high cost of living, unclear travel purpose, weak ties to Kenya
  • Double-check which mission currently represents Iceland for Kenyan applicants, as this can change
  • Travel insurance must explicitly list Iceland/Schengen coverage of at least EUR 30,000
  • Extensions are rarely granted; plan the exact itinerary before applying since dates on the visa are tied to the stated trip
