Hungary Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Kenyan citizens need a Schengen Type C visa for Hungary — apply via VFS Global Nairobi; fee EUR 90, standard processing 15 calendar days.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond the intended departure date from the Schengen area, with 2 blank pages
  • Completed Schengen visa application form (signed)
  • 2 recent passport photos, 35x45mm, white background, taken within the last 6 months
  • Travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 for the whole Schengen area, valid for the full trip
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter if staying with a host)
  • Return or onward flight reservation
  • Proof of sufficient funds: 3 months' bank statements showing roughly EUR 50-100 per day of stay, or a sponsor's statement plus affidavit of support
  • Biometrics (10 fingerprints + digital photo) required at VFS Global Nairobi if not on file from the last 5 years

Visa types

  • Schengen Tourist/Visitor visa (Type C): single or multiple entry, up to 90 days in any 180-day period, fee EUR 90
  • Schengen Business visa (Type C): for meetings, conferences, trade fairs, same validity rules, fee EUR 90
  • National long-stay visa (Type D): for study, work, or family reunification longer than 90 days, applied for directly through the Hungarian consulate
  • Transit visa (Type A/C): for airport or short transit, fee EUR 80 for children 6-12

How to apply

  • Book an appointment online through VFS Global's Hungary visa application center in Nairobi
  • Complete the online application form and print the signed confirmation
  • Attend the appointment with the full document checklist, pay the fee, and give biometrics
  • Track the application status online using the VFS reference number
  • Interviews are not routinely required but may be requested for incomplete or flagged applications
  • Decisions are collected in person or via courier return of the passport

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: EUR 90 (approx. KES 13,000-14,000 depending on exchange rate)
  • VFS Global service fee: approximately EUR 25-30 in addition to the visa fee
  • Total estimated cost: EUR 115-120
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days from a complete application, extendable to 30-45 days if additional documents or an interview are needed
  • No official express/priority service for Hungary through VFS Nairobi; apply well ahead of travel

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply at least 3-4 weeks before intended travel to allow for processing delays
  • Common rejection reasons for Kenyan applicants: insufficient proof of funds, weak evidence of ties to Kenya (employment letter, property, family), inconsistent travel itinerary
  • All applications must go through VFS Global Nairobi; the Hungarian embassy does not accept walk-in applications
  • Extensions inside the Schengen area are only granted in exceptional circumstances (medical emergency, force majeure); plan to exit before the visa expires
  • Keep copies of all submitted documents and the appointment confirmation for reference
