Finland Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Kenyan citizens need a Schengen Type C visa for Finland — apply via VFS Global Nairobi (Finnish Visa Application Centre); fee EUR 90, processing 15 calendar days.

Guide last updated September 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Finnish Schengen visa application form
  • One recent biometric photo, 35x45mm, white background, taken within the last 6 months
  • Travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000, valid across the Schengen area for the full trip
  • Proof of accommodation for every night of your stay
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months and an employment/business letter showing sufficient funds and ties to Kenya
  • Biometrics captured in person at VFS Global Nairobi (required for first-time applicants and every 5 years after)

Visa types

  • Airport Transit Visa (Type A) — for passengers transiting a Finnish airport without entering the Schengen zone
  • Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C), single entry — one trip, up to 90 days within a 180-day period
  • Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C), multiple entry — for travelers with a documented need for repeat visits, valid from 1 up to 5 years once a travel history is established
  • National Long-Stay Visa (Type D) — for study, work, or family reunification exceeding 90 days, applied for directly through Finnish Immigration Service (Migri), not via VFS

How to apply

  • Book an appointment through VFS Global Nairobi, Finland's outsourced visa application centre for Kenya
  • Submit the application form, passport, photo, and full document checklist in person; biometrics are captured at the same visit
  • Pay the visa fee and VFS service fee at the centre
  • Submit no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 calendar days before travel
  • Interviews are uncommon for straightforward tourist cases but may be requested if documents are unclear
  • Collect your passport in person at VFS or use their courier return service

Fees & processing time

  • Standard Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 (~KES 12,500) for adults; EUR 45 for children aged 6-12; free under 6
  • VFS Global service fee: approximately KES 4,500-5,500
  • Total estimated cost: roughly KES 17,000-18,000 per adult applicant
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days from a complete submission
  • Can extend to 30-45 days in individual cases requiring extra checks with Finnish authorities

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply at least 3-4 weeks before your intended travel date to allow for the standard processing window plus any delay
  • Common rejection reasons for Kenyan applicants: insufficient proof of funds, unclear travel purpose, and weak evidence of ties to Kenya
  • Always apply through VFS Global Nairobi rather than attempting a direct embassy submission, since Finland processes Kenya applications through VFS
  • If visiting multiple Schengen countries, apply at the mission of the country where you'll spend the most nights, or your first point of entry if time is split evenly
  • Extensions inside Finland are only granted in exceptional circumstances (medical emergency, force majeure) — plan your itinerary to fit within the approved dates
