Estonia Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Kenyan citizens need a Schengen Type C visa for Estonia; since Estonia has no embassy in Kenya, apply via a representing Schengen mission or VFS Global — fee EUR 90, processing 15 calendar days.

Guide last updated September 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • One recent biometric photo, 35x45mm, white background
  • Travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 for the whole Schengen area and full trip duration
  • Proof of accommodation for every night of the trip
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months and an employment/business letter showing sufficient funds
  • Biometrics captured in person at the handling visa application centre (required for first-time applicants and every 5 years after)

Visa types

  • Airport Transit Visa (Type A) — for passengers transiting without entering the Schengen zone
  • Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C), single entry — for one trip, up to 90 days within a 180-day period
  • Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C), multiple entry — for travelers with a genuine, documented need for repeat trips
  • National Long-Stay Visa (Type D) — for study, work, or family reunification exceeding 90 days, applied for directly with Estonian authorities

How to apply

  • Estonia does not have a diplomatic mission in Kenya, so applications are handled either through a representing Schengen country's embassy in Nairobi or through VFS Global if Estonia has contracted them locally — confirm the current representing mission before applying, as this can change
  • Book an appointment with the confirmed handling mission or visa centre
  • Submit your application form, passport, and full document checklist in person, and give biometrics if required
  • Pay the visa fee (and any handling/service fee) at the centre
  • Submit no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 calendar days before travel

Fees & processing time

  • Standard Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 (~KES 12,500) for adults; EUR 45 for children aged 6-12; free under 6
  • Service/handling fee from the representing mission or VFS Global: typically KES 4,500-6,500 on top of the visa fee
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days from a complete submission
  • Can extend to 30-45 days if the representing mission needs to consult Estonian authorities directly
  • No official express service is generally available for Estonia via a representing mission

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Confirm which mission currently represents Estonia for visa purposes in Kenya before you start — since Estonia has no embassy locally, this detail changes more often than for larger Schengen states
  • Apply at least a month ahead of travel to allow for the standard processing time plus any added delay from consultation with Estonian authorities
  • Common rejection reasons mirror other Schengen applications: insufficient funds, weak proof of ties to Kenya, and incomplete accommodation/itinerary details
  • If Estonia isn't your main Schengen stop, consider applying at the embassy of the country where you'll spend the most nights instead
  • Keep all correspondence and receipts from the representing mission, since processing may involve extra coordination steps not needed for countries with a direct embassy presence
