Djibouti Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

Kenyan citizens can get a visa on arrival at Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport or land borders — fee around USD 90, valid for a single entry stay of up to 1 month.

Guide last updated September 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival
  • One recent passport-size photo (some border posts request it on the spot; carry 2 to be safe)
  • Proof of onward/return travel (flight ticket or itinerary)
  • Valid International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever — required for travelers arriving from Kenya, an endemic-risk country
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) or a local contact address
  • Sufficient funds for your stay, in cash (USD or Djiboutian Franc) in case an officer asks to see it
  • Travel health insurance is recommended though not always checked at the border

Visa types

  • Tourist visa on arrival, single entry — issued at Djibouti-Ambouli Airport and major land crossings, valid for a stay of up to 1 month
  • Multiple-entry visa — available for business travelers who apply in advance at a Djiboutian embassy/consulate rather than on arrival
  • Long-stay/work visas — must be arranged in advance through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a Djiboutian mission; not available on arrival

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport (JIB) for air arrivals, and at the main land border posts (e.g. Loyada from Somaliland/Somalia, Galafi from Ethiopia)
  • Fill out the arrival visa form at the immigration counter and present your passport, yellow fever certificate, and onward ticket
  • Pay the fee in cash — USD is widely accepted, Djiboutian Francs also fine; card payment is not reliable at the counter
  • Processing at the airport counter typically takes 15-30 minutes depending on queue length
  • Queues can build up around evening flight arrivals — arriving on a less busy flight or having exact change speeds things up considerably

Fees & processing time

  • Visa on arrival fee: approximately USD 90 (or the Djiboutian Franc equivalent), payable in cash at the border
  • No separate service fee — the amount paid at the counter is the total cost
  • Processing time: issued immediately at the border, generally within 15-30 minutes
  • No official express option since it is already issued on the spot
  • Extensions beyond the initial 1 month can be requested at the Directorate of National Security in Djibouti City for an additional fee

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Carry your yellow fever certificate visibly with your passport — this is the document most likely to cause delay or refusal if missing, since Kenya is a yellow-fever-risk country
  • Have exact USD cash on hand; officers are not always able to give change for large bills
  • Book accommodation in advance and keep a printed or digital confirmation, as officers occasionally ask for it
  • Djibouti's visa-on-arrival is generally straightforward for Kenyan passport holders, but delays are more common on evening flights — factor in extra time if you have an onward connection
  • If your trip is for business or will exceed 1 month, arrange a visa in advance through the Djiboutian Embassy or Consulate rather than relying on an on-arrival extension
