Czech Republic Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Kenyan citizens need a Schengen Type C visa for the Czech Republic — apply via VFS Global Nairobi; fee EUR 90, processing 15 calendar days.

Guide last updated September 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed Schengen visa application form (signed)
  • One recent biometric photo, 35x45mm, white background, taken within the last 6 months
  • Travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 for the whole Schengen area, including repatriation
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter from a host in the Czech Republic)
  • Return or onward flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months and an employment/no-objection letter showing sufficient funds (roughly EUR 50-70 per day of stay)
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and digital photo) captured in person at VFS Global Nairobi — required for first-time applicants and every 5 years after

Visa types

  • Airport Transit Visa (Type A) — for travelers transiting through a Czech airport without entering Schengen territory
  • Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C), single entry — one trip, valid for the dates requested, up to 90 days in any 180-day period
  • Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C), multiple entry — issued to travelers with a genuine need for frequent trips (e.g. business), can be valid 1-5 years once a track record is built
  • National Long-Stay Visa (Type D) — for study, work, or family reunification exceeding 90 days, applied for directly at the Czech Embassy rather than VFS

How to apply

  • Book an appointment through VFS Global Nairobi (the Czech Republic's outsourced visa application centre for Kenya)
  • Submit the application form, passport, photo, and full document checklist in person; biometrics are captured at the same visit
  • Pay the visa fee plus the VFS service fee at the centre (cash or card, KES equivalent accepted)
  • Applications can be submitted no earlier than 6 months, and no later than 15 calendar days, before travel
  • Interviews are uncommon but the officer may call for an in-person clarification if documents are incomplete
  • Decisions are collected in person at VFS or via their courier return service

Fees & processing time

  • Standard Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 (~KES 12,500) for adults; EUR 45 for children aged 6-12; free for children under 6
  • VFS Global service fee: approximately KES 4,500-5,500 on top of the visa fee
  • Total estimated cost: roughly KES 17,000-18,000 per adult applicant
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days from a complete submission
  • Processing can extend to 30-45 days in individual cases requiring extra checks
  • No official express/priority service for Czech Schengen visas via VFS Nairobi

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply at least 3-4 weeks before your intended travel date to absorb any delay beyond the standard 15 days
  • The most common rejection reasons for Kenyan applicants are insufficient proof of funds, weak ties to Kenya (no clear reason to return), and inconsistent travel history or itinerary
  • Always apply through VFS Global rather than attempting a direct embassy submission — the Czech Republic processes Kenya applications exclusively through VFS
  • If you plan to visit multiple Schengen countries, apply at the mission of the country where you'll spend the most nights, or your first port of entry if time is split evenly
  • Extensions inside the Czech Republic are only granted in exceptional circumstances (medical emergency, force majeure) — plan your stay within the granted dates
