What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Digital passport-style photo, recent, uploaded during the online application
  • Scanned copy of the passport bio page
  • Proof of onward/return ticket
  • Proof of accommodation or invitation letter from a host in Chad
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (mandatory)
  • Biometrics: captured on arrival at the port of entry, not during the online application
  • Travel health insurance: recommended

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa: single entry, valid for use within 90 days of issue, max stay 30-90 days depending on approval, fee approx. USD 66
  • Business e-Visa: single or multiple entry, requires an invitation letter from a Chadian company or organization, fee approx. USD 80-100
  • Transit e-Visa: shorter validity for travelers passing through, lower fee approx. USD 40-50

How to apply online

  • Apply through Chad's official e-Visa portal (linked via the Chadian embassy website); create an account, complete the form and upload the required documents
  • Pay the fee online by card (approx. USD 66 for the tourist e-Visa)
  • Standard processing time is about 72 hours; apply at least a week ahead to allow for any delays
  • Approval is emailed as a PDF - print it and present it with your passport and yellow fever certificate at check-in and on arrival, where biometrics are captured

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist e-Visa fee: approx. USD 66, paid online by card
  • Business e-Visa fee: approx. USD 80-100
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee for the direct e-Visa portal
  • Standard processing: about 72 hours; there is no guaranteed express option, so build in buffer time before travel

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply for the e-Visa at least 7-10 days before departure, since Chad has no embassy in Kenya and support queries can take time to resolve
  • Ensure the yellow fever certificate is valid and carried alongside the e-Visa printout, as it is checked on arrival
  • Common delay reasons: unclear document scans, mismatched names between the passport and application, or missing invitation letters for business travel
  • Confirm current security advisories for the specific region of Chad you plan to visit before finalizing travel
  • Keep both digital and printed copies of the e-Visa approval in case of connectivity issues at the airport
