Guide last updated October 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • HKSAR passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host's address)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay
  • No visa, no e-visa and no biometrics required on entry for visa-free nationals
  • Travel health insurance is recommended though not mandatory

Visa types

  • No advance visa applies - entry is granted as a visit visa stamp free of charge on arrival, covering tourism and business for 30 days. A one-time extension of 30 days can be requested inside the UAE via the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) or Smart services app.

Entry conditions

  • Initial stay of 30 days granted automatically on arrival
  • One extension of 30 days is available, usually applied for online through GDRFA before the initial period expires
  • No work is permitted under visit status
  • Overstay fines apply per day once the permitted period (including any extension) lapses

Fees & processing time

  • The initial 30-day entry stamp is free of charge. The 30-day extension typically costs around AED 600-650 (roughly USD 165-180) and is processed online within 1-2 working days through the GDRFA Dubai or ICP federal portal, depending on the emirate of entry.

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Apply for the extension a few days before your initial 30 days expire to avoid overstay fines
  • Keep a copy of your entry stamp and hotel confirmation for any status checks
  • Dubai and Abu Dhabi have slightly different extension procedures (DGRFA vs ICP) - confirm which applies to your port of entry
  • The UAE Consulate General in Hong Kong can assist with questions on status changes or longer-stay visas
