What you need

  • HKSAR passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (required for entry into Uganda)
  • Sufficient funds for the stay
  • No visa, no e-visa and no biometrics required for visa-free entry

Visa types

  • No visa category applies since entry is visa-free for tourism and business visits of up to 90 days. Longer stays, employment or volunteering require a separate permit obtained through Uganda's Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control via its online portal (visas.immigration.go.ug).

  • A valid yellow fever certificate is checked at entry, typically at Entebbe International Airport

  • No visa fee applies for the visa-free allowance; border processing at Entebbe typically takes a few minutes once health documents are verified. Extension or permit applications through the immigration portal carry fees starting around USD 100 depending on permit class, with processing of around 5-10 working days.

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Get the yellow fever vaccination at least 10 days before departure, since it must be valid on arrival and is strictly checked
  • Carry a printed hotel booking and return ticket for immigration checks
  • If your plans include gorilla trekking permits or other tours, book these well ahead as they sell out quickly
  • Uganda has no consulate in Hong Kong, so consular matters are usually routed through its regional embassy
