What you need

  • HKSAR passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or address of host)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds if requested at the border
  • No visa application, no biometrics and no e-Visa needed for HKSAR passport holders
  • Travel health insurance recommended, especially for medical treatment costs

Visa types

  • No visa category applies since entry is visa-free. The 90/180-day allowance covers tourism, family visits and short business trips (meetings, trade fairs). It does not permit employment or long-term study, which require a work or student residence permit (ikamet) applied for through the Turkish Directorate General of Migration Management.

  • Maximum 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, tracked electronically at the border
  • No work allowed under the visa-free entry
  • Must show onward/return travel and accommodation details if asked
  • To extend beyond 90 days you must apply for a short-term residence permit (ikamet) before the visa-free period runs out, via the e-ikamet online system

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee since no visa is needed; border clearance takes only a few minutes. An ikamet residence permit application fee is roughly USD 50-110 depending on duration, with processing of 1-2 months via e-ikamet.

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Keep a digital and printed copy of your return ticket and hotel confirmation
  • Istanbul Airport and Antalya are the busiest arrival points for Hong Kong travelers - allow extra time during peak season
  • If you plan to stay longer, start the e-ikamet residence permit application at least 30 days before your 90-day limit expires
  • Turkey's consulate for Hong Kong matters is typically handled via its consulate general covering the region
