Hong Kong SAR passport holders can enter Tunisia visa-free for stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business, with no advance application needed.

What you need

  • HKSAR passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the planned stay
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host invitation letter)
  • Sufficient funds for the length of stay
  • No visa, no biometrics and no entry form beyond the standard arrival card
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended

Visa types

  • There is no visa to apply for in advance - the 90-day visa-free allowance covers tourism, family visits and most business activity such as meetings and conferences. It does not cover paid work or study, which require a residence permit (carte de sejour) obtained from the Direction Generale de la Surete Nationale after arrival.

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 days within any 180-day period, counted from the entry stamp
  • No employment permitted under visa-free status
  • Immigration officers at Tunis-Carthage or Monastir airport may ask to see your return ticket and hotel booking
  • To stay longer than 90 days, apply for a carte de sejour at a local police station before the visa-free period expires

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee applies since no visa is required; passport control at arrival typically takes only a few minutes. A carte de sejour extension costs roughly TND 20-60 depending on category and is usually processed within 1-2 weeks.

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Carry a printed hotel booking and return itinerary in case immigration asks for them
  • Keep the entry stamp visible so it is easy to prove length of stay if you request an extension
  • Register your trip with the Hong Kong Immigration Department's outbound travel alert service before departure
  • Tunisia has no consulate in Hong Kong, so routine consular matters are usually handled through the nearest regional Tunisian mission
