Guide last updated October 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond stay
  • Scanned passport bio page for upload
  • A digital passport-style photo
  • Completed online application form with travel details
  • Proof of accommodation or an invitation letter (sometimes requested)
  • A GBAO permit add-on must be selected during the e-visa application for travel to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region

Visa types

  • Tourist e-visa: single entry, up to 45-60 days depending on category, fee around USD 50-75
  • Business e-visa: similar validity, fee around USD 75, requires an invitation letter
  • GBAO permit: small additional fee, selectable during the e-visa application for Pamir Highway travel

How to apply online

  • Apply at the official evisa.tj portal: create an account, complete the application with passport and photo upload, select the visa type and GBAO permit if needed, then pay online by credit card in USD. Approval is typically emailed as a PDF within 3 working days; an express service is available for an extra fee with next-day processing. Print the approved e-visa and present it with your passport at the port of entry.

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist e-visa fee: approximately USD 50 (standard, ~3 working days) or USD 75+ (express, ~1-2 working days)
  • GBAO permit: adds roughly USD 10-20
  • Payment is online by credit/debit card and is non-refundable if the application is rejected

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Apply at least 5-7 days before departure to allow for standard processing and possible requests for extra documents
  • Double-check passport scan quality, as blurry uploads are a common rejection reason
  • Select the GBAO permit in advance if visiting the Pamir Highway region, since it cannot easily be added after issuance
  • Carry a printed copy of the e-visa, as border posts in remote areas may have unreliable internet access to verify it digitally
