Norway Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Hong Kong SAR passport holders can visit Norway visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period as part of the Schengen area, with ETIAS pre-travel authorisation expected once that system becomes mandatory.

Guide last updated October 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years
  • No visa required for stays up to 90 days in 180 days
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay (cash, bank statement or credit card)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation)
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Travel health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 strongly recommended, particularly for winter/outdoor activities
  • No biometrics required for the visa-free entry
  • Once ETIAS is mandatory, an online pre-travel authorisation will be required in advance

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourism, business or short family visits up to 90 days
  • Long-stay visa/residence permit - needed for work, study or stays over 90 days, applied through the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI), often via the nearest Norwegian mission
  • Schengen visa-free entry does not permit paid work

Entry conditions

  • Maximum stay: 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen area, not Norway alone
  • No work permitted on the visa-free stay
  • Carry proof of accommodation, funds and return travel in case requested at the border
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are not available without leaving Schengen and applying for a different visa/permit category
  • For stays over 90 days, apply for a Norwegian residence permit well in advance through UDI

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the 90-day visa-free stay
  • Future ETIAS fee: EUR 7 once mandatory (free for under-18s/over-70s)
  • No VFS/BLS fee needed for the short visa-free stay
  • Total cost estimate: EUR 0-7
  • Processing time: immediate entry at the border; ETIAS, once required, typically approves within minutes to 96 hours
  • No express option needed

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Track combined Schengen days if visiting Norway alongside other EU/Schengen countries on the same trip
  • Winter travel (Northern Lights season) requires extra insurance and gear planning, though this doesn't affect visa requirements
  • Once ETIAS launches, register online in advance rather than waiting until departure
  • For longer study/work stays, start the UDI residence permit application months ahead, since processing can take weeks
  • Keep digital and printed copies of accommodation and return flight bookings for border checks
