Nigeria Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Hong Kong SAR passport holders need a Nigeria e-Visa, applied for online through the Nigeria Immigration Service portal before travel, with final clearance and biometrics completed on arrival.

Guide last updated October 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond entry
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate, mandatory for entry into Nigeria
  • Passport-style digital photo, white background
  • Scanned copy of passport bio-data page
  • Letter of invitation from a Nigerian host/company or hotel booking confirmation
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement)
  • Confirmed return/onward flight ticket
  • Travel health insurance recommended
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) captured on arrival at the airport, not during online application

Visa types

  • Visa on Arrival / e-Visa (Short Visit) - tourism, business or conference; up to 90 days single entry, extendable
  • Business e-Visa - requires invitation letter from a registered Nigerian company, up to 90 days
  • Transit Visa - for onward travel through Nigeria, up to 2 days
  • Subject, Resident and other long-term visa categories require full embassy processing, not available online

How to apply online

  • Apply via the Nigeria Immigration Service e-Visa portal (portal.immigration.gov.ng)
  • Upload passport bio-page, photo, invitation letter/hotel booking and proof of funds
  • Pay the applicable fee online by credit card (commonly USD 160-200 for a Short Visit e-Visa, depending on single/multiple entry)
  • Receive an approval/pre-approval letter by email, typically within 5-10 working days
  • Print the pre-approval and present it on arrival at a Nigerian airport, where biometrics are taken and the visa is formally issued
  • Approval does not guarantee entry - final decision rests with immigration officers on arrival

Fees & processing time

  • Short Visit e-Visa fee: approximately USD 160 (single entry) to USD 200 (multiple entry), varies by category
  • No separate VFS/BLS fee since this is a direct government e-Visa system
  • Total cost estimate: USD 160-220 including minor processing charges
  • Standard processing time: 5-10 working days for pre-approval
  • No express processing generally offered; apply well ahead of travel

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Apply at least 2-3 weeks before travel to allow for processing and any additional document requests
  • Common rejection reasons: missing yellow fever certificate, weak proof of funds, unclear invitation letter
  • Keep both digital and printed copies of your e-Visa approval for airline check-in and immigration
  • The nearest Nigerian diplomatic mission can be contacted for guidance, though the e-Visa portal is the primary application route
  • Extensions are handled by the Nigeria Immigration Service Comptroller General's office after arrival
