Visa on Arrival

Hong Kong SAR passport holders can get a visa on arrival at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport or at land border crossings; the fee is USD 30-125 depending on stay length, paid in cash or pre-registered via Nepal's online Tourist Visa form.

Guide last updated October 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Passport-size photo, 45mm x 35mm, white background (needed if not using the online pre-arrival form)
  • Completed Arrival Visa Form, or the QR code from the online Nepal Tourist Visa application
  • Proof of onward/return travel
  • Evidence of sufficient funds (cash or bank statement) for the stay
  • Travel health insurance recommended, especially for trekking and altitude risks
  • Biometrics (fingerprint and photo) taken at the immigration counter on arrival
  • Hotel booking confirmation, useful though not always checked

Visa types

  • Tourist Visa (15 days) - multiple entry, fee USD 30
  • Tourist Visa (30 days) - multiple entry, fee USD 50
  • Tourist Visa (90 days) - multiple entry, fee USD 125
  • Business/Official visas require prior approval from the Department of Immigration and cannot be obtained on arrival

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) and major land border posts (Kakarbhitta, Birgunj, Nepalgunj, Kodari)
  • Fill out the Arrival Visa Form on arrival, or complete the online form at the Department of Immigration's website up to 15 days before travel and bring the printed confirmation and QR code
  • Pay the fee in cash (USD or major convertible currencies) at the bank counter inside the immigration hall, then proceed to the visa counter with the receipt
  • Processing at the airport usually takes 15-30 minutes outside peak hours, longer during high season (Oct-Dec, Mar-Apr)
  • Queue tip: use the online pre-arrival form to skip the paper form step and move faster through the hall

Fees & processing time

  • 15-day visa: USD 30
  • 30-day visa: USD 50
  • 90-day visa: USD 125
  • No separate service fee for visa on arrival
  • Total cost estimate: USD 30-125 depending on duration
  • Processing time: typically 15-30 minutes on arrival; online pre-registration saves time but does not replace fee payment
  • No express option; delays mainly occur from queue length during peak tourist season

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Complete the online pre-arrival form a few days ahead to speed up airport processing
  • Carry USD cash in small denominations - card payment is not reliably available at all immigration counters
  • Common issues: insufficient visa fee cash on hand, photo not meeting size requirements if filling the paper form
  • Extensions are available at the Department of Immigration office in Kathmandu or Pokhara, up to 150 days total per visa year
  • Trekking regions (e.g. Annapurna, Everest) need separate TIMS/permit fees on top of the visa
