Visa types

  • No visa category applies for the 90-day visa-free tourist/business stay. Travellers wishing to work, study, or stay longer must apply for a visa or permit through Namibia's Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, or the nearest Namibian consulate before travel, with employer or institutional sponsorship required for work and study categories.

Entry conditions

  • Hong Kong SAR passport holders may enter and remain in Namibia visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism or business, with no work permitted on this basis. On arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek or a land border crossing, present your passport, return ticket, and proof of accommodation. Extensions beyond 90 days can be requested at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security office in Windhoek before the initial period expires, subject to justification and a processing fee.

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee applies for the visa-free 90-day entry. Extensions, where granted, typically involve a modest administrative fee, payable in Namibian dollars (pegged 1:1 with the South African rand), and are processed within a few working days at the Windhoek immigration office.

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Namibia's self-drive safari circuits, including Etosha, Sossusvlei, and Fish River Canyon, involve long distances between towns - plan extra buffer time and fuel stops into your itinerary
  • Carry proof of accommodation and return travel even though visa-free, as it is sometimes checked at Hosea Kutako International Airport
  • If extending your stay, apply at the Windhoek immigration office well before the 90 days lapse, since processing can take several working days
  • Namibia has no consulate in Hong Kong - plan any longer-stay visa needs well ahead, typically through Namibia's embassy in Beijing or a neighbouring regional mission
  • Travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage is strongly recommended given the remote, sparsely populated terrain in much of the country
