Myanmar Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

Hong Kong SAR passport holders can obtain a Myanmar visa on arrival, or apply in advance through the official e-Visa portal, for tourism or business stays of up to 28 days.

Guide last updated October 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay
  • Completed e-Visa application or arrival visa form, with a scanned passport bio page and digital photo for the e-Visa
  • Passport-sized photo, digital upload for e-Visa or physical photo for arrival application
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay
  • Biometrics (fingerprints) collected on arrival at the airport
  • Travel insurance recommended given variable medical facilities outside Yangon

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa/visa on arrival - single entry, valid for 28 days, fee around USD 50; Business e-Visa - single entry, valid for 70 days, fee around USD 70, requires an invitation or recommendation letter from a Myanmar business partner; Transit visa - for short layovers, lower fee, valid for up to 24 hours.

Visa on arrival

  • Apply in advance via Myanmar's official e-Visa portal by uploading your passport scan and photo and paying the fee online by card; approval typically arrives by email within 3 business days, and you present the printed approval letter plus your passport on arrival at Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw International Airport for a visa stamp and biometric check. Where direct visa issuance on arrival is available for specific group or business arrangements, present the same documents plus the fee in cash (USD) at the designated counter. Entry via land borders generally requires a pre-approved visa rather than on-arrival issuance.

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist e-Visa fee is approximately USD 50, business e-Visa approximately USD 70, both paid online by card; processing is typically 3 business days, though delays can occur during peak travel periods. Visa-on-arrival cash payment, where applicable, is in USD and processed at the airport counter in roughly 20-30 minutes.

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Apply for the e-Visa well before travel, at least a week ahead, to avoid relying on uncertain on-arrival processing, which is not universally available at all entry points
  • Check Myanmar's current travel advisories closely before booking, given the evolving political and security situation in parts of the country
  • Carry both a printed copy of the e-Visa approval and backup USD cash for incidental fees
  • Internal flights and land travel between regions can face restrictions or require special permits - confirm your itinerary's accessibility before finalising plans
  • Business travellers should secure an official invitation or recommendation letter well in advance, as it is required for the longer 70-day business e-Visa
