Mozambique Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

Hong Kong SAR passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival at Mozambique's international airports and land borders, or apply in advance through the e-Visa portal, for tourism or business stays.

Guide last updated October 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with at least one blank page
  • Completed visa application form, provided at the arrival counter or online for the e-Visa
  • Passport-sized photo, required for the e-Visa and often waived for visa on arrival
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay
  • Cash in USD or EUR for the visa-on-arrival fee if applying at the border
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) may be collected on arrival regardless of e-Visa status

Visa types

  • Tourist visa on arrival/e-Visa - single entry, valid for 30 days, extendable, fee around USD 50-55; Business visa - similar validity, requires an invitation letter from a Mozambican host, fee around USD 50-60 plus a possible service charge; Transit visa - for short layovers, lower fee around USD 25, valid for up to 5 days.

Visa on arrival

  • Visas can be obtained on arrival at Maputo International Airport and other designated entry points by presenting your passport, a completed application form, proof of accommodation, and the visa fee in cash (USD or EUR preferred). Alternatively, apply in advance through Mozambique's official e-Visa portal: upload your passport scan and photo, pay online by card, and receive an approval letter by email within a few business days, which you present alongside your passport on arrival to receive the stamp. Processing at the airport counter typically takes 20-40 minutes depending on queue length.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa on arrival fee is approximately USD 50-55 for a standard 30-day tourist visa, payable in cash; the e-Visa costs a similar amount paid online by card, with approval typically issued within 3-5 business days. There is no official same-day expedite option for the e-Visa, so applying ahead of travel avoids relying solely on the arrival counter.

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Apply for the e-Visa a few days before travel to shorten the queue at the arrival counter, especially at busier times at Maputo airport
  • Carry small-denomination USD or EUR cash as backup even with an approved e-Visa, in case of system issues at the border
  • A clear invitation letter speeds up both the e-Visa and on-arrival process for business travellers
  • Check current entry health requirements such as yellow fever certification before travel, as Mozambique enforces checks for travellers arriving from at-risk countries
  • Extensions beyond 30 days can be arranged at Mozambique's Immigration Directorate (Servico Nacional de Migracao) in Maputo before the visa expires
