Monaco Visa for Hong Kong Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Hong Kong SAR passport holders can enter Monaco visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, under the same rules as Schengen-area France since Monaco has no independent border control.

Guide last updated September 21, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area
  • No visa required for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period (Monaco follows French/Schengen entry rules as it has no separate border control from France)
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation in Monaco or the surrounding French Riviera
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay
  • No advance photo requirement
  • No biometrics collected specifically for Monaco, since entry is via France/the Schengen external border
  • Travel/medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 is a general Schengen recommendation, though rarely checked for HKSAR passport holders

Visa types

  • Visa-free short-stay entry: free, valid up to 90 days within any 180-day period, governed by the Schengen short-stay rules since travelers arrive via France
  • There is no separate "Monaco visa" - entry is controlled at the Schengen external border (typically Nice Cote d'Azur Airport)
  • Longer stays or residence in Monaco require a Monegasque residence permit (carte de sejour) applied for through the Monaco government after securing local accommodation

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, shared with any other Schengen-area travel on the same trip
  • No paid work permitted while on visa-free status
  • Because there is no border checkpoint between France and Monaco, your Schengen entry/exit stamp is obtained at the French (or other Schengen) port of entry
  • Track your cumulative Schengen days carefully if combining a Monaco visit with travel elsewhere in the Schengen area
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are not available without a residence or long-stay visa

Fees & processing time

  • Entry fee: none for the visa-free stay
  • No VFS/BLS fee, since entry is via the standard Schengen border check at the French airport or land crossing
  • Total cost: EUR 0
  • Processing time: immediate at passport control
  • No express option needed

Tips for Hong Kong travelers

  • Fly into Nice Cote d'Azur Airport, then take the short helicopter, train, or road transfer into Monaco - your Schengen entry stamp is issued at Nice
  • Track total Schengen days across your whole trip (Monaco plus any France/Italy stops), since Monaco time counts toward the same 90/180 limit
  • Monaco is very expensive - budget accordingly and carry proof of funds if visiting for the Grand Prix or other major events, when border checks can be stricter
  • Book accommodation well in advance during peak events (Formula 1 Grand Prix in May, Monaco Yacht Show in September), as hotel proof may be requested
  • No specific Monaco tips beyond standard Schengen practice, since immigration control is effectively French
